The last landlord I had when I rented a house had her own remodeling business and regular employees.  Some of them lived in her properties and got a break on rent while they kept her houses in good working order.  It benefited everyone... her crew had steady work during slow times and she didn't have to go searching for help when something broke.

That dude that pulled the dead snake from the HVAC vent deserved a Christmas bonus.

I remember learning about the NYC rent control debacle at an early age, 7th grade or so.  These unintended consequences made perfect sense to me.  Why be a landlord?  Do something else with it and skip the headaches.  Pile on top of that New York's, and especially NYC's rules and tenant's rights, and you're looking at an unattractive business proposition.   You'd have to go to law school to figure it out.  I'm North Country, and I have problems as it is (with the last shitheads).  These people decided they were tired of paying rent, so they just stopped and squatted.   

Things are good now, though.

That's exactly why I decided to not buy rental property in MN. If there are kids involved, it's very difficult to evict... and good luck collecting back rent.

 Seattle is not the least bit of a friendly place for renters. In-city rents are horrendous. And it's not just residences. Business rents have skyrocked so much that many small businesses have just called it quits.

Quite frankly, I'm tired of trying to let these brain damaged cretins try and think of what anything is.  While they get to figure it out, we get to carry the load.

I wouldn't really have so much of a problem with them running the big shithole cities if they would build walls around them to keep everyone in and then assume full responsibility for providing all their own services, without draining money and resources from the rest of their state via State governement and the other 49 via the Feds.  If they are so freakin' productive they shouldn't need the handouts.
