Got prescribed BC pills...was told by "friend" I was going to burn in hell

WARNING ** Contains some descriptions of the monthly cycle of human females **

I went to my ob/gyn because my menstral periods have become very unbearable. We're talking having horrible cramps, having to change hygeine products every half hour and not even being able to leave the house because I'm afraid of "leakage" in public. Anyway...tests were done. No fibroids, no endometriosis, no cysts, no cancer (thank god) hormone levels are normal for a woman my age (42 years). Doc said it's probably just an unpleasant symptom of perimenopause and birth control pills would probably give some relief. OK well I was on the pill when I was younger, didn't have a problem with them so agreed to give it a shot.

I confided to a friend who I thought was a normal, nice person, about this problem she said that birth control pills were evil and I would be a "baby killer" if I took them. Well let's just say I was offended and told her I didn't believe that crap. She said..."Fine, burn in Hell if that's what you want". My jaw dropped to the floor. I knew this woman was religious but I didn't know she was religiously insane. Let's just say I've learned to never assume anyone isn't crazy just because they seem nice.

1. Well, she'll be right there with you since she has taken the

role of God upon herself. Blasphemy is one of the big ten. Don't remember BC on the list.

Not long. But really, these people are ridiculous.

21. No BC pills was taught in Catholic schools for a very long time!

Probably since they came on the market. I remember many religion classes stating that there is only ONE BC that is accepted by the Catholic Church and that was the rythem method. They even taught that women weren't allowed to say "not tonight" to their husband...it is your duty as a wife to service him, even if your sick.

Obviously I was raised Catholic and I still go to church, but not EVERY Sunday, but I questioned some of their teachings even back in class. BTW, I'm 66 now.

HA! That's a load of horseshit! I don't ever remember hearing that women could not tell their husband 'no'-and not only did I go to Catholic school from primary through grad school, so did everyone on my dad's side of the family so I'm sure I would have heard about it somewhere along the line.

28. I remember those days. I used the Rhythm Method too for a while.

There was always the worry the Method wouldn't work - whether you're safe from the varying phases of ovulation. I switched to an IUD. It was liberating!

Back in those days, we use to tell people, and sometimes, even the priest, that since they weren't the ones who'd bear responsibility for the "accidents", they should MYOB - they had no stake in the decision.

I hate this backward intrusion these nosy and noisy people are inflicting upon our society.

31. remember the old joke: "what do they call catholics who use they rhythm method? answer: parents"

got tossed out of the rcc for arguing reproductive rights and papal authority with the archbishop. old guy wasn't amused at being challenged, and corrected, by a FEMALE.

I'd like to shake that bishop's hand.

34. weird isn't it? What is with this obsession over contraceptives?

Why do they feel it's "Godly" to live like an animal, with no control over fertility? Not many people can afford to live like those Quiverfulls; why give birth to more kids if you have children already going hungry? This seems beyond their moral comprehension.

You can control your fertility...it's called keeping your legs together. As for the Duggars et al...they aren't living off the dole, which is more than I can say for you.

62. I had a Catholic friend call me a baby killer because I'm pro-choice.

I told her I wouldn't mind being called that as long as she didn't mind me calling her a pedophile. Boy, did that conversation ever end in a big hurry!

And I'll bet she no longer speaks to you. Of course, every time you can't logically argue a point with a Catholic, you trot out the pedophile card. Typical.

I'm sure that as a 42-year-old 1,000+ post DUer, she's done plenty of other stuff for which she can burn in Hell, whether her friend is right or wrong on that particular one.

How strange that anyone would think that preventing pregnancy is a sin.

Sounds to me that this friend has strange ideas, they are against same sex actions as it prevents pregnancy. She seems to be against the life style that leads to no children.

Take this up a notch, I wonder how she would feel about a Catholic Nun not having sex , and preventing pregnancy. Their life style goes against the Bible teachings to reproduce.

So as long as woman can prevent regency by having no sex or taking a medication that will do the same, one is good and one is bad.??     Or perhaps both are bad, So sad when a woman believes that other woman are on earth to become incubators for future generations.

Say, is this poster by any chance a Muslim Male.??

Agree. Very likely she will condemn herself to Hell, but birth control pills will have nothing to do with it.

You do know, right, that not all pills prevent pregnancy? Many just prevent the fertilized egg from attaching to the wall of the uteris. So technically, if you believe life begins at conception, it could be considered murder. I have freinds who did a lot of research on this prior to getting married to find a pill that actually prevents firtilization.

So I'm guessing what really happened is she started talking to someone she barely knows about her female problems in graphic, intimate detail and the person she was talking to asked her if this was something she wanted to share with someone she barely knew. Using the kind of twisted, ridiculous thinking of most DUmmies she took the grand leap of thinking that meant she disapproved of her taking the pill instead of the complete lack of class she used talking to someone she didn't know well enough to share this kind of thing with.

Are yes but then then are the once in a life time episodes.

There was a woman who had her uterus removed due to medical problems.  3  Months later she was found to be pregnant.   How could this be no uterus, no baby.

To the amazement of the doctors the egg had attached to her bowel and was growing with out a uterius.  This became the first live birth with the mother having no uterus.

Life will find a way -------    Life is amazing-------

So I'm confused... you said you don't understand how preventing pregnancy is a sin. I responded by saying that polls don't necessarily prevent pregnency, they just terminate the pregnancy, which many people do consider murder/sin. What does that have to do with a baby attaching to the bowels?

Let me take a wild guess here.....cherish44....is having an affair with someone of a race different from her husband and is concerned any future physical evidence that affair might be over whelming.

If she has recently mentioned going on a diet and buying sexy underclothes, I'll bet money on the above.

zero bongs.

Birth control pills don't kill babies, and there are quite a number of therapeutic reasons to take them besides preventing pregnancy.

Even a hardcore Catholic would know that.

This is true, the pill can cause miscarriage (essentially) rather than preventing fertilization.

Quote
In nonsurgical abortion, drugs are used to destroy the baby. Many contraceptives are abortifacient, making the uterus hostile to the fertilized egg. The egg is then expelled, much like a normal menstrual period. Mifepristone (RU-486), the so-called abortion drug, is similar in that it makes the uterus hostile to the fertilized egg.

http://www.ehow.com/about_5379892_scientific-abortion.html

Oh the years ago when the pill was first used. I was told oh so many years ago that the pill prevented fertilization.  This made some kind of senses, since back then we took any kind of medication a doctor gave us. no questions asked.    Today with the pamphlets added by the drugest and warning on the bottle we can check out what we are taking on the PC also.

I had  not then, nor do I know today what kind of BC I took from time to time.  I do remember the Thalidomide scandal and the heart break that brought, but at the time I was young and
truly believed that as long as I behaved myself and was a good girl no harm would come to me or my family.

It has been 10 years sense I popped my last BC pill.  Through the years my prescription kept changing, new drugs as I aged. the doses were changed accordingly.  It is very difficult to become pregnant after age 45 but my grandma did at the age of 52----SURPRISE----

Anyway at no time would I have used that form of birth control had I been told the pill would kill a fertilized egg.   It was troubling for me when a friend became pregnant after skipping just one or 2 pills.  I put  it down to the difference in  everyones body make up, to all the really strange to me the things my friends were going through.

There were even news reports of baby's being born holding a IUD device, and the woman who gave live birth to a baby in the body of a woman with no uterus.   Very confusing times, the woman who swore they took the pill and still became pregnant.

Even worse were the storeys of woman having their tubes cut and for some reason it was not done  correctly and having a tubular  pregnancy.

These problems are going away with time, few woman find birth control a problem,  OOPSIE-- it costs more for the pill a year then an abortion today.

I am trying to move with the times but it is very difficult. Darn woman know today what the sex of the baby is and see pictures of them months before birth.    ME, it was only because of an ex-ray of my kidneys and the baby being caught in the shot that I fought the Army Hospital when they advised I terminate my pregnancy.   Had I not seen that ex-ray I most likely would have aborted, they said my life could be at risk. I had after seeing the film gone home and had to fight family on both sides that told me I was nuts to refuse medical care.

This fetus calls me twice a week, grew up strong and healthy, served his country in the Army.

Tell you the truth here ,when family on either side tells me how proud of him they are of him  some day as I get older and more outspoken, I will have the chance to reply to them,  "Yeah, why is that, you were furious with me for not killing him simply because some doctors gave me an opinion"

I hear you.  My first was a surprise...and "Daddy" wasn't too happy about the marriage and family thing.  I can't count the number of times I was told to "just get rid" of the problem.  Mine is now 31; he served in the Army for 2 years, then married and fathered a beautiful daughter.  If I'd have killed him, I'd have killed HER, too.
