This is true, the pill can cause miscarriage (essentially) rather than preventing fertilization.

Oh the years ago when the pill was first used. I was told oh so many years ago that the pill prevented fertilization. This made some kind of senses, since back then we took any kind of medication a doctor gave us. no questions asked. Today with the pamphlets added by the drugest and warning on the bottle we can check out what we are taking on the PC also.
I had not then, nor do I know today what kind of BC I took from time to time. I do remember the Thalidomide scandal and the heart break that brought, but at the time I was young and
truly believed that as long as I behaved myself and was a good girl no harm would come to me or my family.
It has been 10 years sense I popped my last BC pill. Through the years my prescription kept changing, new drugs as I aged. the doses were changed accordingly. It is very difficult to become pregnant after age 45 but my grandma did at the age of 52----SURPRISE----
Anyway at no time would I have used that form of birth control had I been told the pill would kill a fertilized egg. It was troubling for me when a friend became pregnant after skipping just one or 2 pills. I put it down to the difference in everyones body make up, to all the really strange to me the things my friends were going through.
There were even news reports of baby's being born holding a IUD device, and the woman who gave live birth to a baby in the body of a woman with no uterus. Very confusing times, the woman who swore they took the pill and still became pregnant.
Even worse were the storeys of woman having their tubes cut and for some reason it was not done correctly and having a tubular pregnancy.
These problems are going away with time, few woman find birth control a problem, OOPSIE-- it costs more for the pill a year then an abortion today.
I am trying to move with the times but it is very difficult. Darn woman know today what the sex of the baby is and see pictures of them months before birth. ME, it was only because of an ex-ray of my kidneys and the baby being caught in the shot that I fought the Army Hospital when they advised I terminate my pregnancy. Had I not seen that ex-ray I most likely would have aborted, they said my life could be at risk. I had after seeing the film gone home and had to fight family on both sides that told me I was nuts to refuse medical care.
This fetus calls me twice a week, grew up strong and healthy, served his country in the Army.
Tell you the truth here ,when family on either side tells me how proud of him they are of him some day as I get older and more outspoken, I will have the chance to reply to them, "Yeah, why is that, you were furious with me for not killing him simply because some doctors gave me an opinion"
