Quote
A Camden school administrator has been placed on leave after complaints to the district that she punished a class of fifth graders by making them eat on a gymnasium floor for two weeks.
Staff at Sumner Elementary School were told Monday that vice principal Theresa Brown had been put on immediate leave, said Kenneth McIntosh, head of the Camden Education Association, which represents teachers and support staff.

Camden school spokesman Bart Leff said the matter was under investigation. He said he could not comment further because it was a personnel matter.

Brown could not be reached for comment.

Angel Cordero, an activist who organized the students' parents, said the children had gotten in trouble after one tried to replace a water-cooler jug and water spilled.

For the next two weeks, the children - all Hispanic - were made to eat their lunches while sitting on the gymnasium floor, he said.

"These kids are ESL [English as a Second Language] kids who came from other countries. They're humble," Cordero said.

Some families were initially unaware that their children were not being allowed to sit in the cafeteria, he said.

Catalina Feliz said that her bilingual son, 11, was one of the class members, and that the children had put their food on pieces of paper.

She said she was "happy" that Brown had been taken out of the school.

An official with the district administrators' union did not return a phone call for comment.

Sounds like fun!  I would probably have enjoyed eating lunch on the gym floor.  Anything to break the chain.

Let's see we have: an "activist" who organized the parents, specific mention that the kids were all Hispanic and that this is an ESL class.....did they miss any other talking points? *eyeroll*

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle
