ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA // Jake Lawrence admits that if he had had the choice between a high-paying job and joining the army, he most probably would have chosen the job.

But in today’s economic climate, with a record number of college graduates unable to find work, that was not an option for the 24-year old with a master’s in communications.

And so in October, Mr Lawrence enlisted and soon will head to basic training, then Officer Candidate School and after that quite possibly Afghanistan.

“I can’t lie. If I was somewhere making six figures, I likely would not be turning to this,” said Mr Lawrence, whose father is a career army officer. “I think a lot of people would say that as well. But when you have an opportunity, sometimes you’ve got to take it and run with it.”

Despite two wars abroad and a hesitant public, 2009 was a banner year for military recruiters in the US. During the fiscal year, which ended on September 30, the defence department met all of its goals for the first time since the advent of the all-volunteer force in 1973, bringing in about 169,000 active duty recruits.

Interesting when unemployment was 1/2 of what it is today and Bush was the boss they made this same claim.

2. How does a Super Power field an all volunteer military to fight it's wars?

It removes employment, educational, and career opportunities.

Land of the Free my ass!

Tell you what moron pack your bags and move to a free country then.

4. Sad, but true. There aren't any jobs for young people to go to right now.

They have no choice but to join the military.

So where are the calls for impeachment? When Bush was accused of doing this it was an impeachable offense. You all do recall Bush lied people died right? So where are the banners Obama lied people died?

What's missed by the DUmmies...as always...is that no one is putting a gun to these folks head and forcing them to walk into a recruiting office.

Young Mr. Lawrence could have taken the Libtard way out and ridden the public dole until a job to his liking came along.

Instead he manned up and decided to get a little seasoning...some maturity and some leadership skills...not to mention gainful employment by wearing the uniform of the U.S. military.

And even if he ONLY does one hitch and gets out...he's still displayed more intestinal fortitude than all of the DUmp combined.

Liberalism Is The Philosophy Of The Stupid

The libs/dems of today are the Quislings of former years.  The cowards who would vote a fraud into office in exchange for handouts from the devil.

If it walks like a donkey and brays like a donkey and smells like a donkey - it's Cold Warrior.  - PoliCon

Palin has run a state, a town and a commercial fishing operation. Obama ain't run nothin' but his mouth. - Mark Steyn

The dummies hate the military and think people only join up to kill brown people or because they just cant find a job.
They have no concept that 99% of the people serving have more honor than they could ever hope to have.

What a bunch of losers! I got news for ya DUmmies, ever since 9/11 guys even my age, which is well over 50 btw, would like nothing better than to enlist in this country's Armed Services.

All branches of service are actually turning men/women away that, although have the heart, are lacking in the ability. They can pretty much pick and chose who they accept do to the large numbers of Americans who have pride in their country. Unlike all you asshats that reside in that sewer we call "the DUmp!
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!
