What is your favorite holiday snack, from Thanksgiving through New Year's?
I'm not talking about the main course--which has to be turkey--or one of the subsidary courses (vegetables and deserts)--but rather, something you're inclined to nibble on inbetweentimes, such as at informal gatherings or parties.
Mine has always been slices of cheddar cheese dipped into sour cream, much as most dip potato chips into some sort of dressing.
I don't believe it's an obsession with cheddar cheese or sour cream--it might however be--but more so that I prefer eats that I can identify; things simple and basic which gives one no reason for distrust.
Nebraska enjoys the highest percentage of those of Danish extraction (for the record, I am not of Danish extraction) of the fifty states, and while such are not so common these days as in the past, much of the church and community dinners, and even office parties, featured Danish cuisine.
There is nothing wrong--absolutely not--with Danish cuisine, as its evident longevity and popularity demonstrate, and if one likes it, more power to one, but it was never my bag.
Simple and basic.
