Our old friend, DUmmy IdaBriggs, like most DUmmies, is a temp when working at all. The temp job is becoming permanent, and also like most DUmmies, she doesn't get it. Amazingly, there seems to be a personality problem:

So I didn't get the job, and the person who did started today.
I'm a contract employee, and after nearly a year on the job, they posted the position I am currently performing. I don't get along with the manager I would be reporting to (I do the job under a different department), so it wasn't a shock when I didn't get it.
The person he hired started today. I will still be here (per *my* manager) until the end of the year.
Totally irks me - I'm not qualified to "hire" for the position I am (and have been) performing for nearly a year. I get along well with everyone (except the IT guy who was doing the hiring). At the same time, its not the fault of the person who got hired.
Opinions? Thoughts? ARGH!!! Want to behave with class, like getting a paycheck, and the Michigan economy is bad, otherwise I'd already be gone....

That is going to be "fun" - not looking forward to it.
It's sure to be fun for the new employee as well. But it's probably cause for celebration in the office.

5. You should consider asking for "pay to stay"...
...assuming you're needed to do that training
If there isn't anyone else who can do the job, then they need you for the next several weeks. If you know your job will be gone at year-end, but need to set job searching aside to "take one for the team" - then they should pay you for that sacrifice.

10. Can't / Won't. That would be unethical, and I won't do it.
The truth is they had every right to hire somebody they felt could do a better job than I am doing. I obviously think they are wrong, but at the end of the day, just because I think they are idiots is not a good enough reason for them to hire me. (Okay, that might not make sense - LOL!)
Bottom line is I need to do my best so I can leave with a clean conscience. My feelings are hurt, but I have a low tolerance for stupid, and it wouldn't have been a good long term fit. Sniff. I really like(d) the rest of the people I work with, though, and I will miss the pleasant atmosphere (with the exception of the guy who didn't worship me as the Goddess I am - LOL!).
Translation: I'm too DUmb to get away with sabotage, and they'd fire my ass immediately.

9. Yes. I made him look like an idiot while saving the company $300K.
Then I committed the ultimate crime, and kind of did it again, only that time I only saved the company about $75K.
Add in him asking me to schedule a meeting with five other people, then him not showing up for it which I kind of raised a stink about (her "overslept"), since it was an issue impacting three other departments, and the only thing I could do worse was --
Keep doing things he says are "impossible" in a few days, which I've done now about six times.
Politically, I've made my bosses look good, and I've obviously been a benefit to the company, but since I am a contractor, I am not "protected" politically and am expendable; he also has family ties to the president of the company, so what can I do? I've done a good job, and will continue to do that good job, but this person is frankly an idiot, and I'm definitely better off not reporting to him. Although to be fair, the folks I've done the good work for have kept me on a three-month project for nearly a year, so me whining about not being protected isn't really fair.
My ego is bruised. I'll get over it.
DUmmy IdaBriggs sounds like DUmmy TwixVoy: Smart and indispensable on the job. Most Valuable Employee in the company. First person to be let go.

If your work arrangements fail many of the tests then you were cheated out of employee status and the company would owe taxes and you may qualify for benefits. It's a long shot but at this point you have little to lose.

12. Half ass the hell out of your time left.
Spend a good portion of your time contacting other potential employers. Make as many free copies as you want of your resume. Skip meetings. Stop paying lip-service to people that don't deserve it. Just do the bare minimum to avoid getting fired.
Sure makes you wonder why almost no DUmmy is ever successful, and why they're always broke and unemployed.
