I confronted a republican today
I confronted a rightwinger at (of all places) my Lions Club meeting this morning. The guest speaker was from a charitable foundation here in my town. It's an organization that provides grants to worthwhile charities. This guy caught my attention when he started complaining about taxes. He went too far when he said that "we are now in a climate where considerable tax increases are coming." I asked him to clarify that and he used the term "silly" to describe the current political debate. I asked him straight up if he thinks healthcare and helping the poor is "silly". He replied by talking about how President Carter ruined the military and was a weak President. I jumped all over him for that one. I said "It's ludicrous for you to be bringing up Jimmy Carter in 2009". Then he says, "We'll, I don't mean to bring up politics". I then told him that he came to the wrong place if he wants to talk politics. The club President ended it there. Pretty wild, eh?

Not even sure why I brought this over here.  :-)

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

ZERO BONG!
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

One thing about their stories is that it shows how they are not capable of linear thinking.

To suggest that a person would go from talking about the economic impact of O`s policies to that of Carters incompetence only makes a rational point A to B in their mind.

The rest of the sane would never make that leap.

With increased taxes?    I don't understand, is he acknowledging that increased taxes are coming with this comment -- which infers the increase is justified?

The whole point behind the charitable foundation and purpose of the meeting going right over his head of course.

If this happened at all, I'm sure the chapter president was not happy with him beating up on their guest speaker with his moonbattery.

Have to see if the dummie is able to put 2 + 2 together when  taxes go up and charitable donations to the Lions goes down.
You see, I don't care you how feel.  I really don't.  More importantly, neither does anyone else.  Only about 200 people on a planet of 7 billion actually care about your feelings, and that's if you're lucky.  The sooner you grasp this lesson, the better off you will be.  And since almost no one gives a damn what you do, say, think, or feel, appealing to your feelings when you encounter differences of opinion is not only illogical, but useless.

That's kind of the point I was making... as a former VP for a Sons of the American Revolution chapter, I know how difficult it is to keep coming up with interesting guest speakers for your meetings. Having members abuse and alienate them is not a good thing. Especially when they are directly involved with bringing in donations to the group. I'd like to read the part of the bouncy he left out, where the chapter President grabbed him by his feisty ears, and demanded to know just WTF he though he was accomplishing.
