Coburn Vows to Read Health Care Bill on Senate Floor

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) confirmed Senate Democratic leaders’ fears that he will insist that the massive health care reform bill be read aloud on the Senate floor.

“The American people are going to get to hear this bill read, period,” Coburn told reporters Monday night.

The bill is expected to be hundreds of pages long and possibly more than 1,000 pages. It would take the Senate clerk several days to read the entire thing.

One senior Senate Democratic aide said Republicans will be expected to man the floor the entire time if they want the bill read aloud.

Otherwise, Reid might ask unanimous consent to dispense with the reading. Such requests are routinely granted in the Senate, but opponents have occasionally objected to either slow down progress on the bill or to highlight other objections.

The interesting thing is actually in the RedState post that led to this link.

I wonder if the Dimrats will try and get some speed reader to read the bill. If so,I hope that people will see that as the sham it is.

Remember when Henry Waxman brought out a speed-reader, then smirked?  There were howls nationwide.

The heat from home must be terrific on these folks.  I think the reason Reid hasn't put up a bill is his fear of what would happen to the fax machines when folks read it.  And the phone lines.

The bill should damned well be read, as that's the only time the Sen's will hear/read about it. The lot are useless and need to be fired.

Read it!!! Read the whole nasty thing. I think they should be allowed to take over the three TV networks and broadcast it live until it's read completely. Can you imagine the howling and outrage if people couldn't watch their TV shows? :-)

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I'll believe it when I see it.

I hope to hell he does.

:yeahthat:  Saying he'll do it and doing it are two different things.  I hope he does!
