a salute to the charter members

Things are really popping here today--as they've been popping since mid-summer--and I thought I'd check to see who all was originally responsible for the inevitable success of conservativecave, when it came into being in late December 2007.

So I checked.

So.....tell me, old-timers.

Has conservativecave turned out as well as you originally thought or hoped it would?

I wasn`t quite sure what to think at that point and was pretty much an unknown as had been a recent refugee from FR and hadn`t been at CU but for a couple of months.

So far despite normal hiccups and "stuff" it seems to have worked out fairly well.

Damn...missed it by a week.

You were pretty early, though.

For some reason now forgotten, I arbitrarily picked the first 42 as "charter members."

Not to worry.  I missed it by two.

Not to worry.  I missed it by two.

I'm the sort of person who wants to be absolutely sure a ship's sinking, before I jump ship.

And so I was in the water up to my neck before I finally figured, "Okay, the ship's sinking, so I'd better jump."

I wasn't here but two minutes when Rebel sent me a personal message, asking me to be a moderator of the DUmpster.

I was startled.

I have no way of knowing this for sure, but I always had the impression that management over at our old home sort of viewed me as a loose cannon.

(This however is not to be construed as criticism of our old home, for which I still retain much affection and goodwill.)

I don't think I'm a loose cannon--my shots are deliberately arranged, and just as deliberately made to look random--it's just that most are simply uncertain where and what my target is.

And I thought perhaps Rebel had the same qualms about me, so I told Rebel "Give me a couple of weeks to think about it, so you're sure this is what you want to do."

But just as I was shooting off that personal message, BOOM! I found myself a moderator.

Good times, back then, and even better now.

CC is everything I thought it would be and then some. It's all good!

When the Great Meltdown occured that gave rise to this board, I was actually out of town visiting family. I normally don't check my internet haunts on those trips. There's too many family members under foot and let's face it, I came to see them - not chat online. But for some reason, I got a wild hair and decided to check out our former home to see what was going on.

Imagine my surprise to witness the Great Meltdown in full swing. By the time I stumbled into it, the Meltdown was raging and had already taken out several people. It was like walking into a street fight almost over. Punches flying, people knocked out and bloodied, chaos all around.

I felt so disheartened and wished I had just not even gotten that wild hair that led me to log in from out of town. But, it also allowed me to get a line on this place and where everyone was going. I had no idea what was going to come of the Great Meltdown but I knew the days following would decide for me.

Like Frank, I decided to wait until the ship was well and truly sunk before I jumped into the CC lifeboat.

I haven't regretted a thing since.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Hey Dixie, I was reading something about Brad Paisley today (something about Kanye, I don't listen to country), and as I always do, checked out Wiki. Then I read his story about how he hooked up with his wife. Then I checked out his wife's page. Who does this look like?

+1, especially since that bastard Artois is gone  :uhsure:

For some reason now forgotten, I arbitrarily picked the first 42 as "charter members."

For some forgotten reason?  Arbitrarily?  Come on now, 42 is widely considered the most opportune number, especially if you've remembered to bring your towel.  By golly, it's the answer to everything!

Oh well.

You were number 46, on January 3, 2008.

That's pretty close to the top, out of the membership.

It was a long time ago. Normally, I would be bored by now but CC has been chugging along nicely. The Other Site, I would have a hard time catching up if I was gone for awhile. I don't have that issue here.

I was so glad to leave the other place.  Too many snippy little lap dogs who liked to piss on everyone there.  Then there was the big old elephant who had diarrhea of the mouth too much.
