Don't go hiking or into the woods if---
« on: October 29, 2009, 06:16:40 AM »
Just heard about the Canadian woman hiking and attacked by Coyotes and killed.

Coming from an English-French Canadian family, I have the idea that attacks by bears, wolves and Coyote's can be escalated by the smell of blood.

Bears are drawn to the smell of citronella bug spray and blood, the wolves and Coyotes to injured pray or the smell of blood.

Woman or teen girls that are on their period are sending out a powerfull scent of blood to the wildlife.

Coyotes and wolves unless ill do not attack a healthy person, but the scent of blood may have driven them to attack.

I believe this is the reason that ancient peoples built a separate hut outside the main camp for woman to stay in for a week, they were guarded against the wild life that may have ravaged the village in the night because of the smell of what to them was pray.

I gave my opinion to a friend that mentioned that the blood of a kill for food would also draw the Animals.  I think because of their religious beliefs the people buried the blood and intestines as soon as possible.  They took what they needed from the beast, bone, flesh and pelt, thanked their ancestors for sending them the beast and got rid of the smell as soon as possible.

I believe there is a logical expiation for what are to us strange customs, but all traditions begin for the survival of humans.

I feel so sorry for this young woman, how awful to die in that mannor. There had to be a reason for these Coyotes to believe she was ill or pray, this may, just may be one of them.

Well, it raises some interesting strategies for bear hunting, but I doubt any guy who had to spend time in camp with a PMS-ing woman would try real hard to shoot the bear before it tore up the bait.

Anything worth shooting once is worth shooting at least twice.
