Oh now.

I'm nowhere near the record for posting.

I do seem to be, however, a "topics started" sort of whore, I'll admit.

Frank, you're only 1600 behind WE, and since he doesn't post much anymore, you should catch him within a few hours days weeks.

It may look so, but it's not so.

Our esteemed colleague Chris is slowly gaining on me, and you, thundley4, sir, good and valued friend, have been skyrocketing.

I got kind of mired down, maybe circa 3 comments a day the past several months.

I may be number two, but I'm going only 15 mph, while Chris is speeding along at 25 mph, and you're soaring along at 65 mph.

Oh, but Rearden, sir, the numbers are just a whole bunch of plafooey.

It's just easier for me than for most, because I do accounting and bookkeeping right here at home, which allows me to hang around more.  Others don't have that advantage.

Believe it or not, myself being a latecomer to conservativecave--I wanted to be sure our old home was sinking, before I abandoned ship, and was in the water up to my neck when I came here--when I first joined, Crazy Horse was the leading "topic starter," and the only ambition I had was to get, and stay, ahead of him.

It's just all in good fun.

Although no one's going to get the crown jewel of the Country Club--"topics started"--unless the title's pried from my cold dead hands.

Anybody else is free to have any of the other titles, but I plan to keep the crown jewel.

Ah, well perhaps my post was too subtle, or I'm just not a great communicator.

I meant, jokingly, a small dig toward are most prolific and generous contributors. A mild rebuke, as if to say the top 10 were furious scribes, seeking records and internet glory in a mad dash to a never coming finish line. Meanwhile, I was taking it all in, donut in hand and coffee on the table, like my grandad reading the Sunday paper.

In truth, I believe the top 10 (and then some) are really the heart of CC and do much that makes visiting worthwhile. I well know post counts and the like are, well I can't put it better than "plafooey". I've never been treated with a suspicious eye toward my post count (like at DU) or anything of like nature. I consider many folks here to be my "electronic friends" who would likely be more-so, were the diaspera not so very wide.

Actually, sir, the most important statistic is "pages viewed."

There's a "unique visitors" statistic, but I've never been able to find it.

But in terms of "pages viewed," this is already the best month conservativecave has had, and it's not even over yet.

"Pages viewed" trumps all else; it lets us know if the topic starters and commenters are providing something of interest.

Some people simply like to read, rather than comment, and that's okay.  We'd rather have them read and not comment, than not read at all.

And with a name like "Rearden Steel," your own participation has been long noticed and appreciated; it shows a solidity of purpose, of strength, of integrity.

It's like a football game.  There's the quarterbacks--the administrators--the running backs and pass-catchers--the moderators--and the referees--the commenters.  And there's no football game without an audience.
