Worsening job picture fuels slide in confidence
 
CHICAGO (AP) -- Americans' confidence about the U.S. economy fell unexpectedly in October as job prospects remained bleak, a private research group said Tuesday, fueling speculation that an already gloomy holiday shopping forecast could worsen.

The Consumer Confidence Index, released by The Conference Board, sank unexpectedly to 47.7 in October -- its second-lowest reading since May.

Forecasters predicted a higher reading of 53.1.

A reading above 90 means the economy is on solid footing. Above 100 signals strong growth.

I'm surprised they are shocked by this. I could have told them this by driving around my hometown and seeing the vacancies in the distribution centers, reading the reports of credit card companies jacking interest rates and requiring annual fees, and by looking on Monster.com.

I maybe old fashioned but 'expert' classification used to mean you were correct 95%+ of the time.  I mean if you miss the target 80% of the time you do not get an expert marksmanship ladder.

Now it has morphed into never gets a prediction correct.

A ) first outlet to scoop the news.
B ) buys The One time to 'fix' the numbers
C ) paints a bleak, yet rosier picture than if they waited until the final calculations are in.

None of these present a down side if one is an Obama lovin'  agency such as the A.P.

American Pravda will report that the numbers are bad but not as bad as experts expected.  So the end of the recession, the worst since the great depression, is fragile but growing thanks to the smartest president ever.
