Top 50 Cartoon Characters
« on: October 25, 2009, 07:32:10 AM »

"What's up, doc?" Bugs Bunny is, perhaps, the most recognizable and famous cartoon character. Looney Tunes were first created as lead-ins to feature films. It was only later the cartoons became a Saturday morning staple. Generations later, Bugs Bunny is still tops.

Cartoon characters are as endearing to adults as children. Many times we can relate to them. Most of the time we just love to laugh at their antics and misfortune. Following is the list of top 50 cartoon characters of all time, judged for their influence, their popularity and their hilarity.

What, no Pinky and the Brain?

Quote
The Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Pinky: I think so, Brain, but how are we going to make pencils that taste like bacon? Or maybe we should make bacon that tastes like pencils. Narf.

The Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Pinky: Um... I think so, Brain, but what if the chicken won't wear the nylons?

Pinky: Gee, Brain. What are we going to do tonight?
The Brain: The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world.

I think the "Animaniacs" as a whole should have made the list. Yakko, Wacko and Dot were hilarious along with Pinky and the Brain.

Pooh but no Tigger? I guess I can live with that and props to including George of the Jungle.

Honorable mention:

Dumb list.

"Bill" from Schoolhouse Rock ("I'm just a bill") at #32 while Tom & Jerry sit at #39 and DONALD DUCK at #36?

I hardly think anyone would even recoginize "Bill" out of context.  I think everyone would recognize Tom & Jerry, and certainly Donald Duck in any setting.

Bugs The Filthy Sodomite Bunny can rot in Hell.  :bird: Garfield should be on the list.

It was the... I'm striving to be a journalist, and need some rubbish to use as a filler for a quick score.  Let's compile all the cartoon characters the author can recall than randomly rank them by their personal favorites.

It was nice knowing you, journalistic standards.   :thatsright:

Saturday mornings and cartoons. Kids today have no idea what they have missed unless they watch the Boomerang channel and even then alot of the old cartoons are either edited or not even shown on TV.

No Speedy Gonzales to be found on TV.  Even some of the old World War II cartoons have been banned for their portrayals of enemies.

When I see Saturday morning cartoons, they are all junk. Also, they are mostly live action. Kids today are missing out.

Yes they have BUT,Warner Bros has released them to DVD unedited andwith extras. I saw them last month when I sponsored a monthly model contest for our local club. It was for my late father that I decided that there should be some kind of contest with desert war theme and we ended up with "Operation Torch : 1942" and as part of the meeting one ofthe guys had brought the DVDs for us to watch during the meeting breaks.

My 6 year old watches Boomerang she prefers it to the cartoons on Cartoon Network

Another classic that isn't available in the US, at least not legally, is "Song of the South".  Disney released it overseas but not in the US on DVD.

That movie was incredible.  I still remember it from when I was little.  I have been trying to get a copy for years.

I downloaded it and burned it to DVD a couple of years ago for a friend, but didn't keep a copy for myself. I'm going to have to find it and download it again.

12. Eric Cartman? It's rigged! No way Cartman should be anything OTHER than his rightful place as #1!  :censored:
