Oh my.

One wonders if Pedro Picasso's sent his mother a birthday present yet.

At least a card would be nice.

Sleeping with the Enemy: My weekend on K Street

My wife and I are spending the weekend in D.C., a little break as we wrap up a surprisingly busy off-year election crunch at the agency. They set us up with a nice room -- which happens to be on K Street, right in the heart of the lobbyist district. Should be a nice time, but the ultimate irony is, Obama is coming to Connecticut this weekend, while I'll be in DC. He's coming to support a certain high-profile client of ours, and I was told that if I was going to be here I could have gotten to meet him.

Oh well. Should still be a fun weekend. Any Washington DUers care to recommend a good place to lift a pint after a hard day of monument-gazing?

1. Be sure to go for a stroll in South West D.C.

It's enchanting after dark.

2. I lived there in the early 70s so all my pub crawling information is woefully out of date.

However, if you've got the time, work up a real thirst by going through as much of the Smitshonian as you can manage. That is really worth the trip to DC. The heaps of marble pale in comparison to the real treasures inside those buildings.

It's too bad the unfrocked warped primitive didn't crawl away from the narcotics cabinet at the hospital.

Actually, Pedro Picasso is rather fond of Asian food, particularly Japanese and Chinese and Thai and Indian.

I have no idea why, but there you have it, there it is.

I have no idea why, but there you have it, there it is.

For the real stuff not something like Thai food cooked by an Irish Chef, on Q street we found most likely the only supermarket in the whole area. They have a buffet of hot and cold food that feeds the Embassy's.  From Goat eyes to horse meat, fried chicken to Indian what ever that was.

Being on a tight budget we bought food there and brought it back to our bed and breakfast.  One can literally spend a couple hours in there checking out what the rest of the world eats.

I would love to retire and live in DC, I am way too old for the bars and clubs but I can imagine what goes on when the sun goes down.  One place we walked past every morning was without doubt a ultra expensive establishment, I expected to see the DC Madam stroll out the door.

Oh yes. I am shameless when it comes to checking out the famous, be it Senator or the Call girl escorts for short, fat, balding ,old men.    The only person of note that lives in my area is Dan Brown the author and he is about as interesting to watch as the mail man.

After D.C. maybe Atman should check out Detroit.  I hear it's lovely this time of the year.

I wouldn't mind if Pedro Picasso did exactly that, pedestrianing through inner-city Detroit after dark, to see the sights and the charms.

However, I hope Pedro Picasso would leave his wife at the hotel, and go solo.

He could spend the night in his choice of an abandoned home, in the abandoned sector

I know, I know! How about you walk the length of the Viet Nam Memorial, you POS!

My brother's name is up there, asshat! Like you give a shit!

ETA: don't want anyone to get the impression this was my blood brother. He was a step brother. To me it's the same, but to others, well I'm sure a DUmmie would find fault.

4. Thanks!

I'm printing out your recs. Today I made some reservations for a nice Sunday brunch that we can walk to from our hotel -- heck, we can practically see the White House from our hotel -- and have been checking out the options. We definitely have to visit the Mall and the Viet Nam war memorial, and the maybe even the Holocaust Museum. Since we're there on a Sunday morning, I even thought of checking out the Newseum and see if I could get a look at the morning talking head tapings. The Smithsonian, at least, some part of it, is on the list. I'd like to see the Corcoran Gallery, too. Got too much to do in two days! Gonna be sweet. Thanks again for the recommendations.

One hopes Pedro Picasso has a good time.

One does not wish Pedro Picasso to kiss a bus while crossing th road, that would be greedy of him. They believe in collectivism, they should all voluntarily walk in front of buses.

For some reason, that isn't a surprise.

Gobucks, why are you surprised that when people retire they sometimes go to live in a totally different environment then  what they spent the last 3/4 of their lives living ?

One of the most amazing day I spent in DC was waiting to see the Queen of England. Had she for any reason walked over to me I would have shaken her hand an stood tall, I feel like biting American woman that curtsy to her.   These woman are so ignorant even with all their money and education.

Another reason I got mad at OBAMA for practically prostrating himself before the leader of a foreign country.  We as Americans  never bow or prostrate ourselves to ANYONE.

We are free and equal to all others, let them Bow to us.  It has been our Country that came in and gave relief and rebuilt the city's of our enemy's. It was us that sends super tons of food to country's that have the money to feed their own but why bother if someone else will feed them.  Every time we send in tons of food to help the people of another country, the leaders bank account goes --caa-ching in a Swiss bank.

Why Obama gave any over riding respect to the leader that is a despot is beyond me.

I as an American bow my head or genuflect only to God.

Rant over.

I can't think of a better place to escape the harsh dog-eat-dog reality of Connecticut than to vacation for the weekend in Washington DC.  :loser:
