gigantic primitive gets new slippers

The last update on the gigantic primitive was titled "gigantic primitive awaiting new slippers;" well, he got them.

But it alas unhappily appears the gigantic primitive's landed on a plateau.

Thanks to everyone who stopped in and gave me encouragement!

I held off posting for a day because I wanted to get over last night and be in a better mood so I wouldn't come off frustrated and angry.

My slippers (remember -- size 15 EEEEE when my feet used to be just 12 EEE before all these problems) arrived yesterday. I found out very quickly that it was impossible to put the left one on at all because of the extra wrapping and stuff around my bad toes. Complete, total no go on the slippers. I think I'm going to keep them because eventually I hope to be able to wear them. I just need to heal up more first.

Then I went online and started looking at (far more expensive) orthopedic shoes, edema shoes, diabetic shoes, you name it. I was able to find all kinds of walking shoes and other outdoor type shoes in widths up to 9E, but nothing in indoor wear like slippers. Pretty much the widest I could find was something like what I already have and can't wear. I don't want to wear regular shoes right now unless I have to, because they're not as flexible or as comfortable with the problems I have.

So, now I'm going to have to ask Jeanette to find my other diabetic shoes which I haven't worn in ages, because I know they can be forced to fit at least. I'll still need help getting them on though, but I've lost enough weight where I should be able to get them back off on my own if my shoulders don't go out. I have to have something covering my feet before I try straddling the recumbent bike because it's not worth the risk of injury without adequate protection.

I'll see what happens in the next day or two, once I have those other shoes available again.

On a more positive note, my blood sugar this morning was a very encouraging 86! That's one of my best readings so far. I'm still eating my potatoes, brown rice and v*****s, and leafy greens, with beans thrown in here and there.

I hope everyone is doing well. I'll be back to post again once I try getting on the bike wearing my outdoor diabetic shoes. I hope there aren't any further difficulties because I really want to get back to regular exercise.

She woke up in a lot of pain from her own bad shoulder (mild bursitis) and also a queasy stomach, so she called in from work today. There are some things which once again need to be cleared from the bike area before I can use it, but I can't really deal with them and I'm waiting until Jeanette feels ready to tackle that on her own. But, in the next day or two I should be on that bike and back into an exercise regimen!

bunsofaluminum, diet-wise, I'm doing very well. My weight seems to have fluctuated back up a bit this week, but it is still in the 430s and I'm hoping it will be back down by official weigh-in day which for me is Sunday. I wish I had Letha's steady and predictable weight release pattern some days... but I know that even if I'm more erratic the trend is down.

heidifawn, thank you for the sentiment. I agree it is a bit of a "wringer", especially when you add in the bad shoulders and the open leg/foot ulcers. I never cease to be amazed that I'm seemingly recovering from most of these issues with no medical intervention at all. I really hope I can remain lucky, you know?

ncyg46, I will be checking out super-oversized ankle-high crew socks to wear once I don't need to be bandaged the way I am. That's the principal reason why I can't get my left foot into even a 15 EEEEE slipper and can barely fit it into that same size diabetic shoe. Believe you me, I checked every possible combination I could think of for some kind of slippers in a very wide width, but they just don't make anything that looks any more likely to fit than what I've got now. Shoes go into ridiculous sizes, but even EEEEE slippers are rare. I will use my diabetic shoes instead for a while, even though they're not as comfortable. They're really not terrible either, so that compromise is better than nothing at this point.

My big news today is about Jeanette. She just weighed in on my scale after taking her shower and she came in at 153, which is 5 lbs. lighter than she's ever been in the time I've known her. At different times she's been as high as about 168, but has been remarkably stable given the huge amounts of food I'd be eating in front of her as I dealt with my former despondence and depression. Now I can safely say that both of us are benefiting from this plan. I'm a very proud husband right now! 

As for me, I've got my diabetic shoes out and ready to use, but Jeanette has had her own shoulder and stomach issues since last night, so there's no rush to clean up the area around the bike so I can use it. I'm hoping for tomorrow because she called in sick but has improved throughout the day.

I will be back by Sunday with my weigh-in results. I'm back up a bit from 435 as of mid-week but still in the 430s. I don't know why I keep bouncing all over even when I cut my calorie consumption and get rid of the richer plan-legal foods. It's nutty... but I know the trend is ever down and the exercise I plan to get is sure to help! If I can get on the bike and use it tomorrow I may have Jeanette take and post a picture to show here of me on it.

Like, how long and how wide, in inches?

For the record, franksolich wears size 10.5 shoes.

Okay, while I was up letting one of the cats come into the house out of the cold drizzle, I kicked off my shoes and grabbed a tape measure.

I wear size 10.5 shoes, at 6'3" tall.

The widest part of my foot is 4", and the longest part is 10.5".

Your foot is about normal, I would think, maybe a bit wider than I would think. I don't have a tape measure, I just know my shoes are 13 or 13 and a half.

My deal is, I buy only used shoes.

I'm not sure why; probably some long-forgotten trauma from childhood.

I just like things that are already broken in.

And at the usual thrift-store price of 99 cents per pair, even if I end up with some lemons, but three or four fit perfectly, I'm ahead of the game.

That's because she's HAD to be remarkably stable you jerk! You gave her no options lest you both end up out on the street. Gigantic butthole's wife is a saint. I'm sure the queasy stomach is from redressing the nasty sores and her shoulder from doing all the chores the big one comes up with after she's already worked at a...oh...job! I'm sure your pride in her comforts her at night though.  :whatever: I bet a job and you being able to do some chores around the house would comfort her even more. Just a guess.

I really and honestly and sincerely and wholeheartedly want the gigantic primitive to lose weight, circa 5 pounds a week seems a healthy rate, so that shortly after Christmas, he can dust off his resume and lose even more weight pounding the pavements looking for a job, so as to take some of the burden off his long-suffering wife.

I really don't know why Jeanette is still there.  All this guy does is sit around playing computer games.  Not pitching in in any way shape or form.  Then, he's completely repulsive, covered in disgusting sores and even required surgical removal of his underwear.  All this falls on her.  Why did she let all this get so out of hand, anyway?  Maybe she has a psych problem, like those Munchhausen by Proxy cases.  I don't know.

When does he put weight on his feet? And I think 15EEEEE is well into territory that would be considered flippers, anyway.
