Planks for the Platform
« on: October 19, 2009, 09:15:50 PM »
What issues (potentially) confront conservatives on a NATIONAL level?

I'm not looking for policy positions (yet) I just want a general survey regardless what our ultimate position may be.

Those planks I can think of off the top of my head:

National Defense/military
The War on Terror (yes, seperate from the above)
Homosexuals and the law
Environmentalism
Business regulation
Marriage/family law
Abortion
Gun rights
Crime
Civil rights, i.e. race/religion in the eyes of the law
Economics and the government's role
Federalism, the 10th Amendment
Foreign Policy
Education
Social Security
Welfare

What'd I miss?
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

duh! on me    :thatsright:

Ah we forgive ya Snuggles, as the list keeps gettin' longer, don't it? The longer "the One" is in office the longer the list!

Lately I'd have to add personal insurance to it. This Prick is going to destroy a good solution by forcing Insurance Providers to insure people who found out yesterday they have been afflicted with a death threatening disease. They'll never keep their heads above water if they have to insure catastrophic illness! I mean, gimme a frikkin' break, at least make some kind of gestation period, say 365 days! Otherwise, we're all going to be on ObaminationCare!

I think we're ****ed, given Ried and Pelosi runnin' things. Those two don't have the ethics of leaches, let alone earthworms!
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!

I think Congress should be forced into SSI, or at best, retirement comparable to military retirement. They should also have to serve more years than they do now to gain it. They should be forced to accept the same health care that any other GS employee in the government does. This should be worked into law.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I know the federal government can't do much  about it, but it would be nice for voter ID to become mandatory in every state, with proof of citizenship, and residency requirements being met.

International trade may be a subset of economics, but still.....

Also, I have a very real problem with the U.N. I suspect Congress has a very real problem with the U.N. as well since it on several occasions over the past 10 years or so has routinely denied the check it usually writes to fund that bastard organization. I think there should be a plank, or at least a small board, that addresses the party's position on the U.N.

ok, but what about their outrageous retirement benes?  IMHO, there should be no retirement plan for congresscritters, it wasn't meant to be a career in the first place.

Campaign and Election reform.  We have the first sitting President who's still campaigning despite he "paid" 800 million to buy the Oval Office.

Ethics reform.  Tax evaders making tax laws while regular citizens sit in jail ?  Ugh.

They were placed on the standard FERS program at about the same time IIRC.

Term limits might cut down on retirement plans.
