the downside of kids doing chores- dead washing machine.

every silver lining has a cloud.

so, i have a stacked maytag neptune pair. it is at least 10 or 12 years old. i know this is a simple case of teenage operator abuse. simple overloading. this has happened once before. they smash a wax motor, which burns out a resistor on the control board. so, a few parts, a trip to the repair place for a solder, not large.

i think, tho, that this is the one of the three wax motors that was all but impossible to get to. i could get them out here to fix it, but they would insist on replacing the control board, and it would be long dough.

so, looking like it is time to stimulate the economy, and cough it up. need a stacked pair.

any opinions?

1. If you can manage, get a front loader washer

You can get an expensive washer and a cheap dryer. The washers are nearly impossible to overload since they wash by turning the drum on an axis, not by turning an agitator in the middle of crammed-in clothes. They use less water (vitally important here in the desert and somewhat important elsewhere) and some of them use less electricity.

It's a case of more cost up front to save repair cost later.

You know what is really stupid about this one?

Dumbass Warpy is recommending a front loading washer, and well, that is what Mopinko HAS already.  10-12 years ain't a bad run....and those things are expensive too!

Well, I may just be lucky, but we've never had to replace a single major appliance in as little as 10-12 years, and I can count repairs on one hand.
Front loading washers were rare as hen's teeth until fairly recently. DUmmy Warpy must have bought one before her drug addiction, because
otherwise she would never have been able to afford it.

When the front loaders started coming back out, in the late 90's or so, my Mom bought a set of Maytag Neptune, the full size, not stackable.  Shortly after she moved WAY out into the sticks outside of Great Falls.  Her water was delivered to her.  Washing machine was on the 2nd floor, in a house on an incline.  At the bottom of the incline was the water holding tank.  Water pressure was so bad she had to sit in the laundry room and manually reset the washer for each cycle.  That really cracked me up.  (I am a bad daughter.)

Oh noes!  And you're not a bad daughter because you have a sense of humor about it.
