Chilly Wednesday
« on: October 14, 2009, 07:35:45 AM »
Still hanging on.  No snow (yet) but temps in the low 30's/high 20's, and with the leaves on the roads and rain recently, driving is a lot of fun in the mornings.

Work still exists, thankfully.  Microwaves and dollar menu at burger joints are my sustenance at this point.

It's cold out here in the Sandhills of Nebraska this morning.

The thermometer reads circa 30 degrees, but with the strong wind, I'll bet the wind-chill index is approaching zero.

It's 62 (5:47 AM) with today's high to hit 76. Tomorrow we will be back in the 80's. No complaints about the weather.

I'm fighting a bad sinus infection, went to the doctor yesterday and she has ordered me off work until Monday. Hopefully I heal a little quicker and can return sooner. I'm bored, yet my head continues to pound, like someone is kicking me! My nasal tissue was all dried out, and I found that a sinus rinse really helped. I'll be taking Augmentin for the next 10 days. This started on Friday, then Saturday I felt better, then it hit me like a brick on Sunday afternoon....

Easy way to find out:

I punched in a few numbers, and unless your wind is major hurricane force, it's unlikely the WC is anywhere near zero.

Yesterday the high was in the upper 60's, lower 70's and rainy.  AND MY OFFICE WAS 58 DEGREES
Today, no rain, alot of fog, and we go into the 80's. AND MY OFFICE IS 78 DEGREES
Tomorrow, back in the 60's. TOMORROW THE OFFICE WILL PROBABLY BE 58 DEGREES AGAIN.

And I have a cold. No wonder.

Well, I dunno; it's surely bone-chilling weather.

The winds are about average, circa 25-35 mph, a breeze by Nebraska standards.

Okay, I just checked it.

Sixteen degrees.

But to be bluntly honest, there's not much of a difference between 16 degrees and zero.

Another wet, drizzly, damp day in the Music City.  I don't think we're going to see the sun again until March.

Oh, trust me, you see it.  You just don't FEEL it.

And as much as I bitch and whine now, in a couple of months I'm going to be happy if the temperature manages to rise into the 30's.  And I've only got one bag of driveway melt in the garage right now.

Nothing quite as fun as watching the level in your oil tank drop in front of your eyes.  During the "peak heating" season in January and February, I'll get about 6-7 weeks out of a 175-200 gallon fill.  Fortunately, I've got over 3/4 of a tank now, which will last me probably until close to X-Mas.

I don't miss that.

The worst storm in 47 years hit the Bay Area yesterday.  It didn't seem so bad where I was, but apparently there has been flooding, extensive power outages, etc.  Thankfully, I haven't heard any reports of landslides.  We still have a nice amount of rain, but it should be back to dry and cloudy tomorrow.  The traffic was awful yesterday, and I expect it to be awful today, so I'll be leaving the house early.

Dearest, three drops of rain fall on any California freeway, and the commutes are automatically DOUBLED, at least.  I'm not so far removed from it to have forgotten.

Yeah, I know.  People seem incapable of driving when the road is damp  :p

59 and raining (gee that's a surprise)....been raining since last night and supposed to continue through Saturday. It was 72 yesterday afternoon....

Helped the other half yesterday with an auction in a little town north of here...for a plant liquidation. It was combination internet, phone and live with the auctioneer in CA. I was out of here at 7 yesterday morning and didn't get home until 7 last night.

It was my first time helping him and out of 223 items, only made a mistake on 1....at least the guy hasn't picked up the item yet...cause it was a whopper.  :bawl: I've been in tears for over an hour.

The CA auctioneer just didn't understand that E TN people "mosey" from spot to spot and you have to wait for them to all get in place before you start auctioning.....and mosey-in' takes some time.... :lmao:

Have 7 reports to get done by 10 am in the morning.

I want a nap.....
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

I'm north of you (90 mi), and up in the hills. Not as bad as the weather dolts wanted it be. Lots of leaves and debris on the road this morning, but hardly any trees came down (we have LOTS of large Oaks) and very few power outages.

Our golden retriever woke us up at 4:30. She had to tinkle. And sure enough, it was tinkling outside. No walk for the pups this morning.

Very, very little going on at work.

I need to study for a certification exam, but I left my damn book at home.   :banghead:

Over the last couple of days, I've been practicing the tuba. Developing the feel for the instrument will take some time, but it's already better than it was a couple days ago.

I figure, hell, if Dan Aykroyd can fake playing the tuba, so can I.  :-)

So most the horrible storm related news has been hype.  I figured.  The traffic coming to work wasn't very bad today at all.

Brrrr...high of only 51 today, and no sunshine, so it's just bbbrrrrr.  I am resisting the urger to turn on the heat, though.  I'm sure Mr Flame will do it when he gets home from work, but I'd like to try to stick it out a while longer.

Last baseball game is tonight.  Again, brrrr.

If Taco Bell's new Black Jack taco looked interesting to you, skip it.  It's just their regular taco with ranch dressing and spicy monterey jack cheese.  Kind of gross toward the end there... I wasn't sure if I wanted to finish that second one, but I was hungry.
