Holiday Monday
« on: October 12, 2009, 06:05:31 AM »
Well, sort of.  It's my regular day off for the outage, so I'm getting 8 hours of straight time for sitting here at home.  Was kind of a screw job getting Mondays off, but I'll get over it.  "Slept in" until 5, when the dog decided it was more important for him to pee than it was for me to sleep.

Already got the second load in the dryer and will be making the bed soon enough--then a little light housecleaning and making breakfast.

30 this morning.  Rain/snow mix starting tonight.  Time to get the fireplace going.

Today is apple making day for the fundraiser...the good news, is Mr Flame is going with me, so at least I don't have to suffer alone!  The bad news is, I have to do it at all!

Supposed to be in the mid 50's today...kids will probably close the windows while we are gone...LOL.

Work tomorrow.

Today is an "optional" day off at work for me, and I chose to take an extra day off at Christmas instead of taking today, so I will be at work.  I'm hoping work will be quiet though.  The rain is moving in this evening.  Getting out of bed was very difficult today.  I slept solidly last night, but am still exhausted.

My eye feels weird. It feels like I have a headache in my eye. It's been hanging around for the last few days. I don't want to call my eye doctor, I am sick of doctors.

I have a parent/teacher conference today with my youngest daughters teacher. I don't feel all that hot and I really don't want to go but I will. I really need to go to the grocery store today and I don't want to do that either.

Today's high is 67.  I wish we had at least one really cold day.

No holiday for me. :(

After work, I head over to my house for the final walk-through and to get the keys. Then I have to start making calls to movers, the utility companies, etc. I've already made an appointment to have the carpets cleaned on Friday. I'll transport all of my boxes and the little things over the weekend. I'm hoping the movers can take care of the big stuff on Monday.

It's going to be a busy and exciting week for me!

Went to the Ozarks over the weekend to pick up the tuba. Along the way, did two volksmarches. The first 10k walk was an absolute bitch - incredibly stony ground, up and down the mountain. The same rain last week that drowned out the Midwest had gone through this area and most of it was still pretty soggy. Literally had to ford a stream 4 times (shin-deep).

The pooches endured well, though the effort clearly kicked their asses.  :hyper:

Yesterday, we did an 11k which encircled the Pea Ridge Civil War battlefield. Terrain was much friendlier this time, but the pooches got their asses handed to them again.

They did NOT want to get up this morning to go pee.  :rotf:

I think you need to go back to Texas for a month or three to seek proper medical care.

The inclement weather seems to have passed us by... clear skies until after dark or whenever it decides to rain again.  I really need to change that heater hose on my car; guess I'll be headed to the parts store to pick up a couple lengths of hose.  I suppose I should do an oil change while I'm out there, but I hate messing around with that stuff.  Maybe I'll try a reverse-bleed that I heard about from Mercedes Benz -- you use a hand- or vacuum-pump to suck the oil out of the crankcase from the oil filler tube until the crankcase/oil pan is empty.  Sure beats crawling around on cold pavement and messing around with oily drain plugs.

Already did my weights this am. Otherwise just mulling about doing housework. Got in the holiday mood over the weekend and got the indoor Halloween decorations up and have been getting stuff pretty well organized around here. No holiday for anyone today, but the kids are off anywhere from Wed-Fri this week. Think the bigger kids only get the last 2 days of the week off and the little one has all 3. Had a terrific weekend with my kids. Taking a little quiet time now while the little one watches tv before we start the afternoon of kid pickups and dinner cooking and then it's back to the gym to get out some aggressions via kickboxing! Have a good day everyone!

So Sarah's parent/teacher conference went very well.  She is doing wonderful as always.  The teacher commented that Sarah should be in Gate and she wants to have her tested in the spring.  For those of you who didn't hear the story, she was in EXPO, which is the same thing as GATE, back in Texas.  She had been in it since 2nd grade.  After receiving her scores from Texas they allowed her to go to GATE here in California.  She was in class about two weeks then they pulled her out because they had 36 kids in the class and that was too many.  She was the last one in so she is the first one out.  They actually have kids come from other schools to be in the GATE class because they don't offer GATE at all schools.  If she passes the GATE test in the spring she is guaranteed a spot in the GATE class next year because the GATE classes are offered at her home school.

It pissed me off at first because she has been through so much with the move and everything and then to be ripped out of class and start over again was very upsetting for her.  I like her teacher she has now though and she seems  to be doing really well.  Her teacher seemed really interested in her methods of doing math.  She save one of her tests and showed me how she came to the correct answers the way she did and she said how she hadn't even taught them how to do it that way yet.  She was really impressed with her.

I went to the grocery store and got stuff to make chicken noodle soup for dinner tonight.  I also made two pumpkin pies, the house smells so good with the pumpkin pies baking and the chicken in the crock pot for the soup.

Pumpkin?  Soup?  You in CA?  You sure?

I'm still wondering if your daughter will have my cousin as a teacher.  I'm going to have to look into that.  Talk about your small worlds.

It's nice here, in the high 70's right now.

No holiday for me, but I took a paid sick day.  :evillaugh:

I've been fighting some major sinus congestion for a couple of days, and just don't feel good enough to do it today.
