The Surprise Over The Nobel Peace Price - A Reflection Of The Right Wing Bias In The U.S. Media?

Edited on Fri Oct-09-09 03:00 PM by TomCADem
President Obama's administration has in only ten months:

1. Followed through on plans to gradually withdraw from Iraq contrary to candidate McCain's promises. How many fewer troops in Iraq are there? How many more in Afghanistan?
2. Reached out to Muslim nations offering to treat them with respect, rather than lecturing down to them about American values and democracy.I don't call bowing down and kissing their ring progress
3. Improved relations with Russia by dropping plans for a missle defense on Russia's border, moved towards nuclear arms reduction talks, and got Russia's temtative cooperation on Iran. He got words from Medyev, nothing from the Russian leader, Putin.
4. Initiated face to face discussions with Iran as he promised. We'll see how that plays out if the UN actually gets in to inspect.
5. Managed to reverse North Korea's escalation of rhetoric.NK cut back on their rhetoric, and test fired more missiles.
6. Chaired the U.N. Security counsel, and passed a resolution committing to reduce nuclear arms following up on an earlier speech in Europe on the issue.
7. Improved the standing and power of the United Nations by committing to multi-lateralism.Anything times zero is still zero.
8. Put pressure on Isreal to halt expansion of settlements, rather than just blindly supporting them against the Palestinians. Israel is thankfully ignoring 0Bama, as well they should to avoid the bus tires.
9. Convinced Pakistan to take more aggresive action against jihadist militants that got within 60 miles of Pakistan's capital, which placed Pakistan's nuclear arsenal at severe risk.
10. Reversing eight years of climate change denial from the Bush administration, and has supported efforts to pass a cap and trade bill through Congress. Bush wasn't denying global warming. To deny something, it has to exist.
11. Ratcheted down the rhetoric on Iran, and tried to engage them early on in his Presidency, which signiciantly helped opposition elements in the Iran election, since the U.S. was not playing the traditional role of the Great Satan. You mean he turned his back on the only people that could have brought real change to Iran, correct?

Conservatives have opposed all of the above moves and some so-called liberals have minimized each of them. Thus, here we sit, with most right wingers, and some "liberals" opposing the award of the Nobel Peace price to President Obama. Patriots should have opposed all of the above.

The fact of the matter is that the President has signicantly changed the arc of world diplomacy, and based on his actions this past year, I think the award is well deserved. The shock and surprise over the President's award says more about us and our media, then it says about President Obama, because other countries apparently have a much different perspective. Afterall, remember the world leader saying that he can't understand why President Obama is being compared to Hitler for trying to expand health care. Apologizing and blaming Bush for eerything really accomplished very little in the eyes of the world except to make the US look weak.

Can President Obama do more? Of course. But does that mean he has done nothing? The answer is no.

Appeasement has never led to anything bu higher causality counts.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Appeasement has never led to anything but higher causality counts.

As it will in the next terrorist attack . . . (Note to DUmb**** lurkers--this is not an endorsement of, or an admission of, knowledge of any future terrorist attack.  Matter of fact, if one was in my area and I was near enough to do something about it, I'd probably die trying to stop it.  Unlike you inDUHviduals.)

  • Make America Great Again. Deport some DUmmies.
that's all well and good - but Obama was President less than two weeks before the nomination deadline, so even if all of that sweetness and light were 100% true, it all happened AFTERWARD.

Obama was nominated, and won because he is exactly the kind of touchy-feely Euro-centric pushover that the world wanted to see as President of the United States. The prize will also serve to keep Obama on a short leash.

The one thing that I love about it, is its totally premature - I expected this to happen in October of 2012 to give his holiness a bump in the polls.

  • All in all, not bad, not bad at all
CNN did a piece today on reactions to the muslim winning the Nobel. They kicked it to reporters
in world capitals to get comments from people on the street.

The first one they went to wasn't London, or Paris, or Rome, it was Nairobi!

Now, that's appropriate, since he's the first Kenyan to win it, but I doubt it gets positive comment
from the DUmp.

I was at the gym, and had Fleetwood Mac blasting my headphones, so I couldn't hear what they said,
but the other Kenyans looked even more excited than Hussein.

It almost made me have a shred of respect for CNN. Almost.

Like all libs and socialists who are so taken with themselves the committee no doubt thought this was and enlightened thing to do.
The love of the world would shine on them.

Like normal thinking people do,they have seen it for what it is and consider it a joke and a farce.
