SO.....I was looking at my daughters deviant art site...
« on: October 08, 2009, 11:29:00 AM »
and I have come to the conclusion that she is an Anime Geek.  Will this hurt her in the future when it comes time to marry?  Will I be able to unload her on anyone?  LOL Just kidding.   :p

I'll show you some of her stuff.  Sometimes she goes by "Lenore" when she signs her art.

Here is some non anime art.

This is suppose to be a whale of some sort.

She said she has a hard time drawing hands.

Here is something she was working on last night.  She says on her site that she isn't finished with it yet.  At least it isn't Anime.

I doubt it.  I'm pretty geeky and I'll vouch that we tend to be loyal, nice guys.  She'll be fine.

I was kidding about finding someone to unload her on.  When she started at her new school she was "in the closet" about her anime stuff.  At lunch they can go into the computer room and play on the computer.  She said that she is the only girl that goes in there during lunch.  Little by little her anime secret has come out.  She said she was embarrassed to let people know but now I think she feels comfortable with it as she hasn't been getting any negative feedback about it.  She likes Japanese music as well.  That part of it I can't stand.  It seriously pisses me off every time I hear it.  No offense to any Japanese music lovers out there but it is annoying as hell.

"Geekdom" is just a crude way of saying "esoteric."

She'll be fine, BEG. And likely she'll move on to other media and other styles before she settles on her own.

I know nothing about art, but I can see promise when a youngster can draw something besides a stick man. Or girl.

It isn't the piano being tuned that's painful, it's the string-stretching that's akin to fingernails on the blackboard.....

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I'm a retired illustrator. She has a beginning. If the drive is there, get into a solid graphics school. Not a computer graphics school. I mean an art schol for illustrators.

Nothing wrong with anime. I've watched lots of the non-pron type of anime, both movies and series. Much of it has better plots, character development and voice acting than we find in Hollywood movies.

Na, I see a future in Hentai Anime....

BEG....her work is great....I love the jellyfish.

If she's interested in...check out the Art Institute....it's in several different cities around the country. I went on a college trip this time last year with my running buddy's niece. She interviewed in Charleston SC, but actually decided to attend the one in Boston. She loves it.

Also the SCAD ...Savannah College of Art and Design.

I went in on the interviews and tours at both schools and they are just incredible. Both places pretty much guarantee a job in one's chosen field within 6 months of graduating.

There's also Full Sail University, in Orlando. I haven't been there, but from what I understand, it's is also an incredible school.

My son is looking at AI and Full Sail...he would like to get involved in either animated films or special effects set construction.

My son is going to CIA (Cleveland Institute of Art) for Industrial Design.  He is in his third year and really loves it.  He has a friend who is going to Savannah.

zfk55, she can draw really well.  Actually all of my kids are really talented artist.  They get it from my husband, he is an industrial designer.   They have been surrounded by art their whole lives.  Her high school is right next to Fullerton College and she can take classes there her last two years of high school.  She really wants to be an illustrator and thinks she is going to do animation when she grows up.  It's like each of my kids try to outdo the last.  My son said to me the other day when I showed  him something my youngest had done that was really impressive was that he is the clunky first version of the iPod, my daughter Lauren (the one who this post is about) is the iPod nano and then my youngest is the iPhone that does everything.   :p

That is so cool!

All of them(IA)...are similar yet some have a few different things.

I was soooo impressed. If I was 30 years younger....I swear I would enroll in their Culinary Institute! When we were in Charleston, they were advertising for tryouts for The Next Food Network Star. I so wanted to try! :bawl:

First of all, she is very talented. Second, my brother was a anime geek in school and he ended up marrying a lovely normal girl and is expect a second child with her. Third, I have seen pics of your daughters, they are as pretty as their mom and you should have nothing to worry about. :)
