500,000 to boycott Pepsi over its ‘homosexual advocacy’
   Source: The Raw Story

A group that advocates "traditional family values" claims it has the signatures of 500,000 people who have pledged to boycott Pepsi over what is says are the company's activities promoting gay rights.

The American Family Association, which boasts "2.5 million online supporters," "asked PepsiCo to be neutral in the culture war and not support the homosexual agenda," it said in a press release Tuesday. "PepsiCo refused. The company continues to give financial support to homosexual organizations."

The AFA launched its boycott campaign in January over PepsiCo's "continued support of same-sex marriage and homosexual advocacy." The group said it had received a "condescending letter" from Pepsi that "refused to address Pepsi's support of the homosexual agenda."

In particular, the AFA decried PepsiCo's donations to groups that funded the effort against California's Proposition 8 last year. The AFA said PepsiCo gave $500,000 to the Human Rights Campaign, which had worked to defeat Proposition 8.

1. Sitting here enjoying a Pepsi product right now

And now that I know the so called "American Family Association" is planning a boycott against Pepsi, I will continue to enjoy their products.
Just like Glenn Becks listeners/viewers continued to watch and listen, except his audience grew with the boycott against him. I doubt that will happen with Pepsi.

Well, this list alone will provide the DUmmies with the means to keep PepsiCo in business.

I give you the Disney boycott as a prime example. Oh, no doubt they signed but they're too god damn lazy to ever change brands. They ARE conservative after all and change is verrrrry scaaary. They'll give it lip service, and I for one intend to buy Pepsi for the first time in years.

Whiskey & Pepsi - I'll give it a whirl.

106. I'm a "lard ass", and I stick to boycotts

Thanks for the gross generalization. It certainly wouldn't be a day at DU without one, would it?
You should change your name Missy.  A vixen is a fox, I've never seen a "lard ass" fox.

24. I've always preferred coke, so this is not actvism I can support....

with my money by purchasing Pepsi products.

I do wish that the food industry would stay out of politics, though.

It sucks that you can't buy what you want without pissing somebody off.

At the same time, it sucks that we have to carefully vet our purchases because the industry doesn't.

85. In a blind taste test with Pepsi, Coke and RC Cola...

No one could tell the difference....

Well to be more accurate, the hits and the misses all gave the same results that random guessing would have.

BS, got a link to that?

I did the Pepsi/Coke blind taste test several times during the time it was done. You can always tell the taste difference. I smoked at the time too so I was supposedly deadened taste wise.

I've never been able to see any similarity between the flat, syrupy taste of Pepsi and the sharp bite of Coca Cola.
They are as different as tea and coffee.

I remember back when they had the glass, returnable bottles that RC did some campaigns where they had a money amount under the cap. You could cash in the cap. I miss those days.

We had heavy glass deposit bottles until way up into the 70's at least, maybe early 80's.
Pop in plastic bottles or cans has never tasted as good as the deposit bottles.

If the headline had read 500,000 boycott Pepsi over it's support of the WoT they'd be making references to "mandates" and "sea change" and a "clear example that America is finished and disgusted with 8 years of Republicans screwuing up their country"

That sounds about right.

I worked in a grocery store while in high school, and was the manager of the returned bottles department.

It was a pain, dealing with people who wanted to turn in bottles with chipped tops, which of course the soda distributors wouldn't take back.

Ever pour one of the little bags of salted peanuts into your drink? :-)

When I was a kid working at my uncle's gas station, we'd play a game called "Traveler On The Bottle." Back then, glass Coke bottles had the name of a city and state molded into the base, where the bottle was made I guess. Sometimes when we got Cokes out of the machine we'd all put up a dollar first, then pull our bottles out of the machine. Whoever's bottle had a city on the bottom the farthest away won the money.

500 thousand are going to boycott...out of a US population of 300 hundred million....comes to .....1/600 th of Pepsi's potential market. And that doesn't even count the world wide market.

They're gonna get results, I'm sure. :whatever:
