Protesters march on G-20 summit in Pittsburgh
Source: AP

PITTSBURGH — Police are ordering several hundred protesters to stop their march in opposition of the Group of 20 summit in Pittsburgh.

The march is not sanctioned by the city and police have declared it an unlawful assembly. They are playing an announcement over a loudspeaker telling people to leave or face arrest or "other police action."

Several hundred protesters, many advocating against capitalism, are trying to march toward the site of the summit.

Police in riot gear are standing guard near the protesters.

1. I honestly don't give a damn about how anarchist are treated
The greenpeace guys I care about but the Anarchist are pretty much as insane as the teabaggers.

Hmm, I figured the anti-capitalism rhetoric would've helped seal the deal for you.

3. Suppression of First Amendment rights is a concern no matter who is involved.
Edited on Thu Sep-24-09 05:21 PM by Hissyspit
We don't get to pick and choose civil rights depending on whether we like someone or not.

And I say that as someone who gets really annoyed at "anarchists."

Anarchists at least DO understand many of the issues of world economic polices, unlike most Americans.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

and to not say "lob Molotov cocktails like it's a bodily function"?

5. PLEASE post updates as soon as they become available!
My daughter and her partner are there in Pittsburgh with the Pagan Cluster, and I need to know make sure they are okay. I don't have any TV reception and I'm on dial-up, and therefore can't watch video on my computer either.

I'm going to try and call my daughter now, but depending on what's happening at "Ground Zero" she may not be able to answer the call. So PLEASE, anyone who is there with the capability of blogging from cell phone, etc. let us know what's going on

It's amazing the different receptions towns give to these G20 folks vs. the Tea Partiers.  During the Tea Party we attended in NJ, the police closed off the main street and gave the TeaPartyExpress buses an escort into the town, all the police stood with the 3000 attendees, joking and speaking with everyone, all the businesses remained open (Fri. night) and the Municipal Hall (town hall) remained open for people to be able to use the facilities. I don't think Pittburgh is giving that type of reception to these crazies.

Also, it was such a different scene after the 9/12 Tea Party in DC where everyone cleaned up after themselves and left the area cleaner than when they got there.  Contrast that to the inauguration of The One . . .

9. Funny how liberals constantly whine and complain that nobody stands up
to the fascist forces that have taken over our country and the world. I hear so much whining and bellyaching "When are we gonna rise up?" or "When are we going to fight back?"

And yet the anarchists have been doing that for more than ten years now, taking risks and directly confronting these fascist forces. And many liberals do nothing but berate them for it. I don't agree with everything anarchists have ever done and I do believe they should alter some of their tactics. But I have yet to meet any other protesters that have the drive, passion, and fierceness that they do.

Liberals complain when they can't get a permit to protest. Anarchists protest anyways, even if it means getting shot with wooden bullets and maced. Liberals constantly compromise their principles. They really have no other choice, because the Democrats they continually put into office are always letting them down. Anarchists rarely compromise on anything. Liberals complain when the police treat them with brutality. Anarchists actually have the courage to hit back at the police for doing so.

I would like to see liberals and anarchists work more closely together.
I think both groups could learn a lot from each other and united, could pose a very strong resistance to the powers that be. Just my two cents.

why do their protests end up with tear gas and being carted off to jail? while ours are peaceful?

I think that is what is rattling in their skulls right now - how the hated 'teabaggers' are treated and treat others versus their side - and the Anarchy groups are their side, regardless of how they try to distance themselves from them.

Hey DUmbass! The city has the right to force you ahead of time to get a PERMIT so you asshats can't totally shut down their infrastructure.

You have the right to assemble, not to riot, not prevent emergency personell from their duties, not freeze traffic to the point nothing moves for hours, and you certainly don't have the right to help yourselves to an others goods just because you are out in force and believe you cannot be stopped!
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!

You have never ever ever in your life seen so many police!  Holy crap they had to have brought in thousands from out of state or something.  I didn't get all that close but I did get passed by a dignitary of some sort with a huge limo and armed security cars/SUVs around it.  I saw my first rolling billboard it said "If you are close enough to read this you can save lives in Sudan" and then had a whole bunch of arabic writing on it.  You could smell the hippy/liberal/attention whores from 5 miles away.
