Curt Shilling for US Senate!!!!!!!!!
That would be a blast.
Now, for a Republican to win would be possible, it would also be pretty close to impossible. Possible, but not likely.
However, if that were to happen, I'm sure some heads--not ours--would explode.
All things have unanticipated consequences. A blade cuts both ways.
The Democrats, liberals, and primitives in Massachusetts should've have left things as they were, for their own good, the governor appointing someone to a vacant Senate seat; this way, Patrick could've already appointed a Democrat to serve until the national off-year elections of 2010, a done deal, cut and dried.
As it is now, Republicans have a narrow opening--it's not likely to happen, but it
could happen--to slip one of our own in, who would win the election of 2010.
This is what happens when someone messes with the rules, trying to change them so as to gain a certain advantage. The unanticipated happens.
This is the difference between Republicans and Democrats--Republicans accept the rules as they are, and work with them. Democrats tinker with the rules, hoping to gain some advantage from fine-tuning them. It works sometimes, but it doesn't always work. It works just about as well as simply sticking with the original rules works.
