Denver suspect admits Al Qaeda ties, explosives training.
« on: September 18, 2009, 04:35:40 PM »
The Denver man at the center of an alleged New York bomb plot, Najibullah Zazi, has admitted he has ties to al Qaeda and is in negotiations to plead guilty to a terror charge, a senior law enforcement official told ABC News.

The official said Zazi had received explosives training and his possible guilty plea would be part of a deal to cooperate with the government.

The 24-year old Zazi had insisted he had "no ties, no connection to al Qaeda" in interviews with reporters earlier this week after his name surfaced in connection with the investigation.

But after two eight-hour interrogations at the FBI offices in Denver on Wednesday and Thursday, Zazi told a different story this morning, the law enforcement official said.

Too bad EIT's are out the window.  Screw that cooperation for a plea deal.  Cooperate, and your death will be quick.

He's probably buddies with the guy out in Aurora who was recently convicted - inspite of the ACLU and CAIR collaborating on his defense attorneys - of unlawful imprisonment, for keeping concubines - against their will - "as was his right under islamic law".

Depends on what and who he gives up, he is looking at 15-20 years minimum in the SuperMax.

While the media is saying the targets were in New York City, remember there is the "Islamic March on Washington" next Friday morning..

The event in Washington with 50,000 people is the perfect opportunity to slip some London-style backpack bombs around in the crowd, and get right up to the steps of the US Capitol.

Perhaps this guy in Denver is just a "plant" and/or diversion and the real attack is coming in the crowd participating in the march on Friday?

They are saying 50,000 people... on a work day.  Because of traffic etc in DC on a workday,  security wouldn't be really tight until close to the Capitol and House and Senate Office Buildings.

The Capitol Police wouldn't want to "offend" the visitors you know, so I don't think they would be searching people on the Mall.

Plus the DC Metro Security would have a difficult time with usual work day commuters on the subway plus the "Muslim visitors" riding as well.  Try searching EVERY backpack.

I just have a bad feeling about this.  Plus if something happens, in the course of an Islamic event...a tragedy might encourage some segments of the US population to "take it out" on otherwise innocent Muslims, causing a PR nightmare.

OTOH, someone may already be thinking that 50K Muslims in one place, makes an inviting target.  Neither scenario, is a good thing by any means.

After the NYPD nearly ****s it up . . .

FBI Arrests Three Men in Terror Plot that Targeted New York
Documents Allege NYPD Informant Went Bad, Tipped Off Subjects to Surveillance

The FBI arrested three men overnight on charges they lied to federal agents during an investigation of a terror plot against New York City that authorities say was "the real deal."

Agents in Denver arrested Najibullah Zazi, a 24-year old airport shuttle driver, who authorities say appears to be the ringleader of the alleged plot. Also charged with lying to the FBI was Zazi's father, Mohammed Zazi.

In New York, the FBI arrested the leader of a Queens mosque, Ahmad Afzali, who authorities allege had been a New York police department informant but "went bad" and tipped off Zazi, his father and others to the investigation.

Afzali's alleged double cross compromised the case and led the FBI to move in on the suspects much earlier than they had wanted and led to extreme tensions between the Denver office of the FBI and the NYPD. One law enforcement official said the NYPD had been specifically asked not to reveal the investigation to its informants, but went ahead anyway.

My wife says that she saw an item this past week where Raymond Kelly said something to the effect that they'd prefer to move too early on a case, than too late.  While I can see that point, there's some things you don't let underlings know about!  WTF happened to OPSEC???  (This is one time I'm serious about that.)
