New Government Policy Imposes Strict Standards on Garage Sales Nationwide

Americans who slap $1 pricetags on their used possessions at garage sales or bazaar events risk being slapped with fines of up to $15 million, thanks to a new government campaign.

The "Resale Round-up," launched by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, enforces new limits on lead in children's products and makes it illegal to sell any items that don't meet those limits or have been recalled for any other reason.

The strict standards were set in the 2008 Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act after a series of high-profile recalls of Chinese-made toys.

The standards were originally interpreted to apply only to new products, but now the CPSC says they apply to used items as well.

"Those who resell recalled children's products are not only breaking the law, they are putting children's lives at risk,” said CPSC Chairman Inez Tenenbaum. "Resale stores should make safety their business and check for recalled products and hazards to children."

In order to comply, stores, flea markets, charities and individuals selling used goods — in person or online — are expected to consult the commission's 24-page Handbook for Resale Stores and Product Resellers (pdf) and its Web site for a breakdown of what they can't sell.

Didn't I post something about that a while back?? Maybe it was on Facebook?? Either way, this is simply ridiculous. Mattel used to have a Vacu-form toy back in the late 60s/ early 70s. I had much fun with mine. They discontinued it because kids kept burning themselves with it.   ::) I guess the parents didn't care to supervise their children while they were using it and/ or their children didn't bother to read the frelling instructions. Too many FUN toys have gone by the wayside due to poor parental supervision and too many people misusing the toys.

On a side note; funny thing........ this was published on Infowars a couple of weeks ago. I did post it on Facebook on Aug 31st (gleaned from Infowars). So....... the moral to this story is don't be so quick to discredit ALL of the news from Infowars.

More government control over all aspects of life.

Ain't it great?

Don't underestimate the idiots leftists that will go to garage sales/ Salvation Army & Goodwill Stores just to do them in/ get them fined.  After all, we are now in the 0bamaReich. You know, turn in your neighbor. I recall reading about someone who filed a complaint against a neighbor up in MN who had a few too many garage sales. It would be this kind of person who would go looking for violations and then report them to the 0bamaReich.

Ummm, nope. I had my first chemistry set when I was seven. (Never blew anything up or killed any thing. An Erector set (with motor) that same year. I graduated to Vacu-form when I was 10 and then onto electronics when I was 12.

What a waste. You clearly weren't trying hard enough.  :-)
