House votes to de-fund ACORN

Posted: Thursday, September 17, 2009 2:20 PM by Domenico Montanaro

The House, in a motion to recommit attached to the student loan bill, has voted overwhelmingly to de-fund ACORN.

It was a bipartisan vote, with more than 300 members voting for the measure. (We'll get the full numbers/vote breakdown shortly.)

This goes further than the Senate did; the Senate took money out of one bill. This is to de-fund the group completely -- for any money the House would appropriate.

*** UPDATE *** House Minority Whip Eric Cantor's office just sent around this statement:

“ACORN has violated serious federal laws, and today the House voted to ensure that taxpayer dollars would no longer be used to fund this corrupt organization. All federal ties should be severed with ACORN, and the FBI should investigate its activity. This united Republican effort to defund ACORN is a victory for the rule of law and taxpayers across the country.”

1. Let's fine some right-wing groups to defund.

We're not going to make Acorn look OK, but we can do something similar to one of their groups.

10. It really surprises me how fast ACORN is being thrown under the bus.

Almost everyone agrees that the individual workers made profound mistakes and likely deserve much punishment, but without any evidence of systematic support for the behavior or willful negligence to not address that issue in ACORN, I don't understand the rush to shut ACORN down.

Really, these videos point for the need for an audit and investigation before considering whether or not to defund it.

Seems like you can vote in a vast majority, and some clowns on fux "news" can make a phony entrapment video, and the party in power bends to a minority to de-fund an organization that has done more good than harm, thus leaving the innocent out to dry because of a few bad apples. Some ****ing Democracy! Why don't the Dems just all stay in the truck and hand the whole thing back to the shit heads who screwed everything up in the first place, or better yet, let Beck/Hannity/Limbaugh/O'Rielly/ Freedomworks/Joe the ****ing plumber/Sarah Palin/and all the rest of those dickbrains run the show? Might as ****ing well, seems they are doing it anyway!

Good luck with that, I do not think there are any.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Even if there were THEY aren't going to get up off their asses and do it.  They will need federal money and federal help to get it done.

Really, though, I'm trying to think of conservative groups who rely on a lot of federal funding.  Maybe some colleges?  I don't know, I can't come up with anything.

The goal here is not to raise the standards of liberals/ACORN.  The goal is to lower the perception of "right-wing groups" so they will be viewed as being as sordid, morally bankrupt, and purely corrupt as ACORN.  The goal is not to improve anything.

Amazingly, the horror story here is not about a "few bad apples" inside ACORN.  The horror is the fact that no one in ACORN or the Little Goons who defend them find it the least bit sick and disgusting that a whore-for-money and a child-sex-slaving pimp should have felt free to walk into any ACORN office and expect help and aid in their immoral disturbing and highly illegal endeavor.  That's the horror.

Exactly! They agree the whore is nothing more than a "perfomance artisit". What the hell was that lefty play or whatever they were touting last year, the "Vagina Chronicles" or some shit? The whole thing was to give porno actors respect, wasn't it?

And just think 13 to 15 year olds from El Salvador would have a better life here being pimped to pedophiles! Words fail me on describing how these degenerate primitives can behave!

ACORN has been a rogue organization for a long long time, conservatives knew it years ago.
The Chigago gangland political organization knew this was going to bring it all into focus so they had to cut and run.
Same with being in a church for 20 years and having no idea the preacher was an anti American lunatic.
Suddenly that couldn`t be anymore either so see ya later Rev.

If I read the DUmmies correctly, they don't seem to have any problem with slavery and child rape.  All they seem concerned with is retaliation against perceived "right-wing" groups, especially those who actually uncovered the corruption in Acorn.

I haven't seen the latest video so I can only say at least 4 Acorn offices in 4 different cities had no issue with giving advice to criminals who wanted to traffic in young girls for prostitution.  Acorn in these 4 cities didn't seem to have any issue at all.  They didn't call the police which makes me wonder how many times and what other crimes has Acorn abetted in?

Yet no outrage from the DUmmies about slavers and pimps.  Just those who expose them.

The Democrat Underground seems like it may be a criminal organization itself.  I wonder if Skinner has found a way to get federal funds?

The San Diego video is a hispanic guy. The Valley Girl was white, btw.

This guy basically told them he had contacts in Tijuana and basically offered to help smuggle in the underage girls. ACORN, of course, threw him under the bus. They can pretend its all "isolated incidents" but this corruption is top down.
