This is going too smoothly and quickly. Something fishy going on with the DimRats and ACORN.

Well I heard on Limbaugh that they also voted to completely take over the student loan business thus ending all competition.

That's reassuring considering the ONLY portion of my student loans that apparently could not get the whole student deferment thing was the portion of the loans that ended up under the government umbrella. It's taken some amount of calls(and that semester that deferred the summer payments is now over and I'm still getting overdue notices--ain't that special?). Yeah, they are going to handle this as efficiently as everything else they do.

House votes to cut off funding, but 75 stand by ACORN

The House of Representatives just voted overwhelmingly to de-fund ACORN, 345-75. The vote came on a Republican motion to recommit the educational loan bill. As a result, the anti-ACORN provision made it into the House-passed bill.
Here are the last names of all 75 congressmen who voted to preserve ACORN's stream of funding: ...

Is this a done deal or can Obama somehow keep our tax dollars going to ACORN?

He could veto it I suppose, but that would mean him making a decision and taking responsibility for the outcome in which case it's hard to say what might happen.

If the Senate votes as overwhelmingly as the House, he won't be able to veto it.

Does anyone think there will be a formal statement from Obama or is Gibbs just going to brush over it quickly in a statement about "How the president feels" like he did with the Carter statements?

Yeah, thanks for the list - now I know the names of the 75 core communists in the House.

Does anyone think there will be a formal statement from Obama or is Gibbs just going to brush over it quickly in a statement about "How the president feels" like he did with the Carter statements?

The latter if history is an indicator.

I heard the house and senate attached the amendment to different bills.  :loser:

Quote
It’s a typical these-voters-are-such-rubes stunt; the House and Senate voted to defund ACORN on different bills.

The Senate bill is a housing bill, the House bill the federal takeover of student loans. Each bill will wind up in conference committee where the ACORN ban can be quietly stripped out, behind closed doors and secure from prying eyes. Then the org can keep on doing its important work of voter fraud and pandering to presumed pedophiles.

The most useful principle to hold close when considering members of Congress: they’re all crooks.

Let them play this game of waiting till bot hbills go to commitee before removing the amendments to defund. The voters can still DEFUND these assholes in 2010 when the elections come around.

I wonder if the Republicans inserted this as a poison pill and the Democrats took it as cover?

The top name on the list of 75 is my congresswoman, I called her DC office this afternoon outlining basically saying defunding Acorn is a good first step but it has to be followed by a rigorous investigation and the public money paid to Acorn over the years should be recovered and refunded directly to the tax payer.  Then the Statists in DC need to apologize to the American people for claiming to be able to spend our money better than we can since most of us would never dream of funding child prostitution or crack houses or sending corrupt politicians to DC.

Hi,

He will not veto it because he would lose everything when there is such a stink that congress has to override the veto.

I THINK I ALSO SAW A SUBTLE DIFFERENCE TODAY.  I heard on Beck the senate voted to withhold all funding for housing; whereas this bill seems to say ALL funding.  This may be one of those times where the house members realize they ALL come up for re-election in 2010 and they have a lot more to lose than senators who come up in 2012 or 2014.

I think there are going to be some real issues in the house.   Guys like Jesse Jackson Jr. would probably get elected anyway so they could care less.  At the same time in IL for example, Melissa Bean lives in a very rich Chicago suburb, Barrington.  She got in because of the way the district is gerrymandered and she is no shoo-in in the upcoming election.  Unlike the republican congressman in the adjoining district who ADDED town hall meeting to his schedule, she cancelled hers and only had a telephone meeting.......which did not sit well with a whole lot of folks.  Those members of the house who voted in favor of de-funding acorn probably realize their jobs are on the line........and hopefully it will be a sign of things to come with health care and cap and trade which MUST NOT PASS EITHER.

There are probably lots of democrats in the house that know if they vote in favor of those bills, their careers are over.

regards,

well, I see my congressman, Mike Honda, voted to continue funding ACORN....sent him a nice e-mail thanking him for showing me he supports child prostitution.

Nancy is already catching heat for another whacked out Press Conference where she throws out more garbage allegations without any proof.

At next week's presser she will blow off any follow up questions.

The Dems see her as a liability.  She won't be Speaker again, regardless if the Dems keep the House.

Then it's up to US to ensure that those on the respective committees feel the pressure NOT to pull those riders out.  If they do, start naming names and publicly shaming them.
