Damn, that is one nice McMansion.

Nah, what I had when I lived in CA was more a "McMansion".  Similar interior features, although the house was smaller (1500 sq. ft.) and the lot, if you can believe it, was 65'X48', or a whopping 3120 square feet.

I'm guessing, based on how old BEG said the original house was and where it's located, that the lot size is about 7000 square feet--not huge, but decent by OC standards.  At least it takes more than 10 minutes to mow the lawn.  The ex's lot is almost 10K square feet, which is damn good sized for that area.

Then again, I'm accused of living in a McMansion now because I don't have at least 5 acres.

I said my OLD house lot was 3120 square feet.  My current home sits on over an acre--a "small" lot by local standards.

Sparky there are several rooms that need improvement.  The main bathroom that guests will use when they are visiting is the original bathroom.  It's clean but ugly.  Our master bathroom while being remodeled in the last 8 years needs to be remodeled again because it was done very stupidly.  The TV room has a fireplace that use to be an incinerator.  It is HUGE and ugly, we are going to take it out.

All in good time.  I know it takes time, effort, and LOTS of money to make a house "just right".  I mean, if I had 50K I could dump it into my house with NO problem, just finishing the basement, putting on a larger front porch, a little more landscaping, etc...

Oh, and the ex suggested Lux Salon on Commonwealth (also in Fullerton).  I think the stylist she uses is Chanel.

Hopefully our house will look that nice when we're done fixing it up.  That should be, oh, 30 years from now.   :thatsright:

It's a really beautiful house, B.  You'll fit right in.   :-)

As far as the dog hair in the stairs carpet, you should try a Rainbow.  No, not the kind that Obama's shooting out of his hinder.  It's a "cleaning system" (aka a vacuum, but don't let them hear you call it that) that's kind of spendy, but really, really good.  Better than anything you can buy in a store.

BEG, SLW and I were looking at the pics and you guys have a greyt looking place!

I would have lost that carpet on the stairs...hate it.

The kitchen is a strange setup but I'd get used to it pretty quickly. The granite
is very nice as is the stove.

I certainly wouldn't complain if that place fell into my lap.  :-)
I didn't like a lot of the paint colors either but that is
easy to change.

Nice place! Hope you guys are happy there.

Question for those in the know....how hard would it be to take out the blue tiles you see in the shower and replace them with the same size tile (but a different color)?

Don't like granite?  If I had the money/time, that's what I'd do.  But to take out those small tiles on the sides?  I guess you could do it if you were REALLY careful not to screw up the white tiles adjacent to it.

Might not be worth the effort, tho.

I like the style of the bathroom I just don't like the fact that those accent tiles are blue.  It limits the options on wall color.

A nice blue/gray wallcolor would look beautiful with those tile accents...white and blue are a great color choice..imo.  My kitchen has white crisp cabinets, stainless steel appliances and a blue steel colored granite.

But that is the bathroom right off the kitchen and the kitchen isn't the same style.  Blue would look wrong I think for the wall color with the kitchen.  I agree that it would look good with the style of the bathroom and the color of the tiles though.

What if you left the beadboard white, leave the blue tiles, and paint the walls a soft milk chocolate color or even a cafe au lait?
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

BEG, I really don't see the blue tile.  Is it up at the top?

If you don't want to tackle the BIG PROJECT just yet, make the blue work for you in the meanwhile.  Use a rust or dark salmon color as your first evident secondary accent color and a buttery yellow as your second subtle secondary accent color.

My major decorating tips for this season:

-Do NOT use painted milk cans inside.

-Stay away from large free-hand or stenciled daisies.

BEG - have you thought about painting the blue tiles? It could be painted white and then it would blend in.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Actually I had thought of doing that.  They wont get wet because they are so high in the shower but I worry that it will look obvious.  The more I live in this house the more I wonder what the heck they were thinking with their paint color choices and a few of their other choices.  Wait until I take a picture of our other fireplace.  It originally was an incinerator that they turned into a fireplace.  It looks stupid.

It's not hard per se, but unless you know what you are doing you can really screw things up.  It can be pretty time consuming to do right.
