Les Stroud or Bear Grylls?

I'm personally more a fan of Survivorman, but it was only filmed for 24 episodes I think, while Man vs Wild is still going.

So which do you folks prefer?

I like Bear, but sometimes he scares me because I know that some tard won't listen properly and do something that he does. Les was far too conservative.

I used to like Bear, but he seems obsessed with urine.

I saw Les's show he did on some other channel about the house he built with his wife and family out in Canada.  That was pretty cool.  I never did like his series tho. 

Can I vote for Mike Rowe?

Both good shows but in quite different ways.  Les is more real, though.  Gotta hand it to him for doin' it the hard way.

First show of his I saw was when he tied his arm up to simulate injuring it in a plane crash, then went a couple of days with just the use of one arm.  I was hooked after seeing that.

Bear got his start whomping balls in the British SAS, which is pretty much one of the most badass military units to ever strap on steel-tipped boots and kick terrorists square in the junksack.  He was trained in survival, mountaineering, parachuting and hand-to-hand asskicking by the most hardcore drill sergeants this side of Full Metal Jacket and served actively in a bunch of crazy ****ing black ops shit right out of a Chuck Norris movie, until all of a sudden one day his parachute ripped in half while he was plummeting to Earth and he ended up breaking his spine in fifteen places and having his legs eaten by rabid lions.  Bear was so badass though that he ended up knifing the lions to death with a rusty shiv and re-attaching his legs using only a pocketknife and a couple vines tied into perfect sqare knots.  Since the SAS has this crazy policy where they don't employ dudes with broken backs, they let Bear go off into the wild on his own.  Within two years he had miraculously rehabilitated himself to the point where he became the youngest British dude to ever summit Mount Everest.  After that he went off and put himself through three months of basic training in the middle of the Sahara Desert for the French Foreign Legion just for fun.  Once he sufficiently proved the size of his enormous nuts to the French dudes, he decided it was time to start up Man Vs. Wild and prove to the rest of the world that he was the most hardcore mother****er to ever punch a rattlesnake in the mouth.

Now Man Vs. Wild is ostensibly a program designed "to show you how to survive in the wild" by teaching you all sorts of insane ****ing survival techniques.  In actuality, the show is more or less "look at how ****ing awesome I am", because Bear Grylls does all sorts of superhuman insane shit that no other human being on the planet should ever be able to accomplish.

Survival mode usually leads to crazy attempts.  I love watching "I shouldn't be alive" on Discovery...now those are real people doing crazy stuff to stay alive.

I knew Bear-Boy Wonder was a world class idiot when I saw him invade a bee's nest for some honey. He must've been stung hundreds of times, his eyes were swollen shut, and he got more wax than honey.

I'm watching that episode right now.  I'm suprised he's having such a reaction to it.  Being allergic to bees is supposed to make you disqualified to serve in the US military.  I'd have thought the Brits woulda been like that to.

I was allergic to bees when I went in the Army.  I lied and told them I had no allergies.

My dad is a former Marine.  I wanted to be a Marine but when I went to enlist the recruiter asked me questions.  When he asked me if I was allegic to anything and I said "bees" he sat back and said he couldn't take me.  No one could.  I walked out of his office and straight into the Army recruiter's office.  When we got to the part that asked if I was allergic to anything I said "Nope."  That was the begining of my enlistment. 

I'm sorry.  If anyone thinks that is wrong they can kiss my ass.  I wanted to serve my country and I wanted to do it in a bad way.  I doubt any enemy combatants would have thrown a fit had they known I was allergic to bees.  I was a paratrooper and I was proud to be one.

I actually view Survivor Man and Man vs. Wild separately.  One as an outright documentary style show with the other a documentary/entertainment show.

Survivor Man is incredible in the sense that the man is actually going out there and surviving horrific conditions without immediate rescue available or standing by.  His dedication, bravery, and knowledge is fantastic.  I view it as a documentary more or less, incredibly enriching... but not always entertaining.

While with Man vs. Wild, Bear and the producers essentially just picks some exotic locale.  Than proceeds to show a few wild and crazy shenanigans while pointing out a few educational tips.  It's an entertainment show versus a documentary; showing exotic locations and some of the dangers they're famous for.  Along with showing him navigate a few of those famous dangers.

Both are pretty darn cool in my book  :cheersmate:

I've never seen 'Survivorman', but 'Man vs. Wild was on for about two hours today (or it seemed like it).  I can't say I was impressed.
