Coast Guard Fires at Boat in Potomac: Report
« on: September 11, 2009, 09:26:43 AM »
CNN is reporting that the Coast Guard has fired 10 rounds at a "suspicious vessel" in the Potomac River.

D.C. Harbor Patrol, however, said that the incident may be a training exercise.

A temporary restricted zone had been set up on the river due to the Pentagon 9/11 ceremony, according to CNN.

I might find that believable if I knew what they fired:  a Ma-Deuce, or the 5" 54cal.

It would be incredibly stupid on the USCG's part.

So far every story I have read states the FBI and the DC Police have said it was a training exercise, whereas the USCG has said it was looking into the matter.   Regardless, if it WAS a training exercise, very bad timing, especially since there are probably even more people at the Memorial Service, due to the big Tea Party tomorrow.

Somebody is retarded for an absolute lack of situational awareness

OR

Somebody is retarded by claiming this was a training ex when it wasn't.

The latter of the two will be far more damnable. Considering how much lefties hollered about a 9/11 cover-up for their own to pull something like that would be a PR disaster. Not that a TX on 9/11--especially after the Scare Force 1 debacle--would cause heads to roll.

A dollar says DU claims Cheney is trying to discredit Obama.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs chastised CNN Friday morning for its reporting on a Coast Guard training exercise on ...

... the Potomac River, which suggested a security incident was in progress in the nation's capital.

"Before we report things like this, checking would be good," Gibbs said.

Responding directly to a CNN reporter's question about whether the public should have been notified about a training exercise, Gibbs was harshly sarcastic: "If anybody was unnecessarily alarmed based on erroneous reporting that denoted that shots had been fired, I think everybody is apologetic about that."

When another journalist noted that the Coast Guard was holding a news conference to take questions on the morning's events, Gibbs jabbed: "Hopefully CNN will go."

The president's spokesman also said the White House had not been notified in advance about any Coast Guard training exercise, but dismissed comparisons to the notoriously botched Air Force One flyover of Lower Manhattan earlier this year.

"I tend not to question law enforcement," Gibbs said, explaining the scheduling of the exercise was "a decision that was made by the Coast Guard."

Wow.

Just--****ing--WOW

They scare the bejeezus out of everybody--AGAIN--and it's OUR fault for thinking no right thinking person would do such a thing on 9/11?

What next? Another Scare Farce 1 flyover of NY with an up-braiding by Gibbs that we should be use to it by now?

How can it possibly be that the USCG conducts a training exercise, on 9/11, minutes away from the Pentagon?

I simply cannot reconcile the fact that:  1.  They would do something like that, and 2. That all agencies that SHOULD be notified when a training exercise is being conducted in the DC limits did not know about it?  Now, granted, I don't know the SOP, but I would "assume" if an exercise were being conducted in a sensitive area, that there would be notification, somewhere?  Right?

Bueller?

Its funny that any Obama administration official would NOW ask CNN to check facts before reporting; If they did that, Obama wouldn't have been elected...This health care bill wouldn't see the light of day....Van Jones wouldn't have been a household word and today of all days have Obama trying to turn remembrance of 9-11 into a community service day ...Well, you get the point.

Which means most likely some Coastie weapons officer will be looking for a new job.  Damn.  God I hate stupid politicians; but then, I'm being redundant.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle
