Having spent a good amount of time in Houston, I couldn't even imagine having a beard during the summers there.  Of course, I've never had a beard, but that's another story. :-)

I'm surprised no one has tried to sue the Yankees or Reds for their facial hair bans.

If the plaintiffs when, and then they suffer as a result of their masks not fitting tight enough because of their beards, then they'll sue the city for not doing enough to protect them.  :whatever:

The Navy got rid of beards back in 1984 for similar reasons. They DID, however, have waivers for those people who had chronic skin problems caused by shaving. IMO, when one is exposed to instances where they are required to wear some sort of protective mask, a beard hampers their safety. There ARE alternative methods for facial hair removal that don't include shaving.
