President Obama says 'sin tax' on sodas is food for thought
« on: September 08, 2009, 05:15:03 PM »

Gov. Paterson's proposal to tax soda in New York fizzled, but President Obama believes it may be time to pop a similar sin tax on the nation.

The President, in an interview with Men's Health magazine released yesterday, said he thought taxing soda and other sugary drinks is worth putting on the table as Congress debates health care reform.

"It's an idea that we should be exploring," the president said. "There's no doubt that our kids drink way too much soda. And every study that's been done about obesity shows that there is as high a correlation between increased soda consumption and obesity as just about anything else."[/quote]

How about adding a $1 per pack tax to the smokes you suck down, Barruh?

Oh wait--you already did that--then again, didn't you say you weren't going to increase ANY taxes on anyone making less than $250K per year?

Don't worry, raising the tobacco tax again, is on the table in Illinois.  :censored: tax and spend liberals never met a dollar that they could spend twice.

Obama Open to 'Sin Tax'

(Sept. 9) -- As he fights a heated battle to get Congress to pass health care reform, President Barack Obama seems warm to another health-related idea: a so-called sin tax on soda and other sugary drinks.
In an interview with Men's Health magazine, Obama called a tax on soda "an idea that we should be exploring."
"There's no doubt that our kids drink way too much soda. And every study that's been done about obesity shows that there is as high a correlation between increased soda consumption and obesity as just about anything else," he said. "Obviously it's not the only factor, but it is a major factor."

I have to hand it to AOL for posting that photo under his Soda Tax comments....they usually post  liberal-sided stories....it seems even the leftist press is turning on him...first CNN, now AOL..I wonder if MSNBC will follow...or perhaps they'll wait till their ratings sink and their sponsors pull out.

Why not ? Obama V 1.1 Beta (Deval Patrick) is also toying with the Sin tax on soda, candy, and other snacks deemed unhealthy.

Even DUmmies and garden variety liberals drink soda so hopefully the masses get it.

I can see November 2 from my house!!!

Forget change, bring back common sense.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle
