Time for Tuesday!
« on: September 08, 2009, 07:39:46 AM »
My only day off this week....just accepted another job for Thursday, so now I'm working for the next three days (in 3 different schools!).

Today I have a Dr appt, and then a trip to Wally world is in order to make sure I have enough lunch stuffs for everyone for the week.  Need to finish up some laundry, too.

Tonight I think is just baseball, as long as the rain holds off.

Months where I work mids are pretty dull.

101 degree fever this morning, no idea why.  Called in sick.  Have a few flu symptoms, but not all or even most.  Have muscle aches and slight headache, but no nausea or cough.  Calling into doc later.

Might be best.  I've heard that the fever is the "big" symptom of the swine flu.

You should go to work.  Then you can be like the monkey from outbreak.

Worked until 5am on reports that should have been done by Saturday...I can be a horrible procrastinator sometimes.. :banghead:

Have some typing to do for the other half today, laundry, and really need to go to the grocery. But have the house to myself for a few hours and I'm thinking it needs to be thoroughly enjoyed.....love the man dearly but both of us work from home...and sometimes it's just really nice to be allllloooonnnnnnnne! :-)

Temperature coming down slowly.  Vitamin C and Theraflu.  Called the doc.  Says it's probably not flu, but not to go back to work until temp is normal and aches/pains gone.  Can't argue with that.  Passed the word onto my boss.

Awww...hope he has a great day!  Enjoy YOUR day, too!

I just ended up working out. He had a great day!!! Thx Flame. Had another cool thing happen too. One of my girls at the gym offered to get him from school when I get a job...I can't tell you what a huge help that will be and this lady has become one of my closest friends here. Our neighbor who used to be a paramedic and is back in school now(his wife is a nurse and pregnant with their second) offered to do respite for my other son too in the afternoons. So exciting for things to come together.

Was a tough day, buthe was sooo ready and he had an absolute blast! :-D

Sparky, get better. Certainly something going around here too!

First off, the u on my keyboard doesn't work so I have to copy and paste a u everytime I need it.   :maddernhell:  I've tried to fix it and I can't.  It's a PITA.

We moved into our house a week ago sunday with out furniture because our youngest started school on monday and it would have been too far to drive to take her to school from our hotel.  Our furniture arrived last tuesday.  I have crap everywhere.  Our dryer doesn't work because there is no 220 plug, they had a gas dryer and ours is electric.  There was no more room on the electrical panel so we would either have to have a new panel put in or buy a new dryer.  Had two electricians come out, having a new panel would cost either $1700 or $5600 depending on who we used (how they were that far apart I will never understand) so we bought a new dryer.  It wont be delivered until the 18th so in the meantime I've been using a clothesline to dry our clothes. My old dryer is only about 6 months old (for those of you who remember my dryer escapades) so it really pisses me off.  My parents are going to drive out here sometime in the next month and I'm going to give my Mom my dryer and she is going to get the matching washer so I guess it will end up ok after all.  I was pissed at the thought of selling it and only getting a couple hundred bucks for a basically brand new dryer that costs $1200.

The carpet in this house is absolutely the grossest carpet I have ever seen.  The majority of the house is wood except for the kitchen (travertine) and the bedrooms.  They had a bulldog who slobbered and must of walked back and forth in the same areas over and over again because the carpet is absolutely BLACK in areas.  Had it cleaned but it didn't come clean enough. It smells still (even though the carpet cleaner guy used something to get the smell out).  So we are getting new carpet, an added expense that I wasn't counting on.  It's really too bad because I can tell that the carpet wasn't cheap.  How it got as dirty as it was is beyond me.

Next the travertine in the kitchen.  There is grout everywhere on the tiles.  I can't believe the previous owners let whoever installed the floor get away with leaving the grout on the tiles.  We are going to eventually have to have the tiles refinished.  There is some way they can kind of lightly "sandblast" the travertine and put either the original finish or shiny finish back on the tiles.

Let's see, what else.....  Oh the master bathroom is the weirdest configuration I have ever seen.  It would take me too long to explain it all but the weirdest thing is the bidet.  How do you clean the whole thing so it is sanitary?  It seems so gross that I can't get to every crevice.  I want a new toilet...besides aren't bidet's passe'?

The schools here are so underfunded.  My daughters elementary sent home a note begging for donations.  There is no bus for my high school kid because of budget cuts.  The classrooms (even my 5th grader) is well over 30 kids (her GATE (gifted and talented) class has 34 kids).  How can they have so many choices and options in Texas where you know they have less money via property taxes than CA (the cost of housing is 1/3rd of what it is in CA).  The state government must be robbing the school system because there is no other excuse I can think of.  They have less hours too.  My 5th grader gets out every wednesday at 1:00.  WTF is up with that?  She doesn't go to school until 8:25 and gets out every day except wednesday at 2:55.

I could talk forever about this whole move but I have to run to the store to get some salmon for my husbands birthday dinner tonight.  I'll be back later to tell you all more if you want to hear it.   :p

Oh yeah, I got uveitis AGAIN.  Been to the doctor twice already in the past week.  It is much better already so I must of caught it early.  Probably got it from the stress of this damn move.

BEG, sounds like you've had a heck of a week.  I'll say it again, moving sucks!

Sucks about the school situation.  I thought my son (4th grade) had it bad with 27 kids in his class.  At least his math class (advanced/gifted) only has 12.

Can't wait to see pics of the new place though, once you get settled.

Happy birthday to your hubby!

Wow BEG....can't imagine....

understand the dryer thing,...my dryer wasn't a year old when we moved here and it was electric and I needed gas. I just went out and got a gas dryer that sort of matched....have since had to get a new washer...so I'm still only sorta matched.  :whatever: You will like the gas dryer though if there's a bright spot to it.

The house stuff you can deal with....by gnashing teeth and an occasional scream. The school stuff would be flipping me out. Hopefully the kids will adjust well and be happy. Once they are, you will be too.

A bidet? Clean it well, stack towels in it... :-)

Enjoy the salmon tonight and happy birthday to your Love.

More like one probably had a C-10 license, and one didn't.  When I lived there and put in the hot tub, I knew enough about wiring to do it myself, but the breaker panel is on the OUTSIDE of the house and to run it through the garage and out the back without it completely looking like shit was beyond my ability at the time, not to mention our home insurance would have frowned upon any non-licensed work getting done anywhere in the house.

To run one 40-amp, 240-volt service through the garage and out to the back wall (maybe 25 feet) with a disconnect was nearly $1000.  Plus another $100 for the GFCI breaker.

Sorry to hear about the school situation, BEG.  And to think--that's one of the "better" school systems your kids are in.  You don't want to know what it's like in LAUSD, Santa Ana, or elsewhere.

And as far as the quality of the housework?  Yo no se, BEG.  Sometimes it's really hit-or-miss.  Talk to your neighbors, talk to anyone who has had work done on their house, so you know who to go to and who to avoid.

Flame,

In Texas we had Expo (that is their gift/talented program) and Sarah would just go to that class every other day during their normal reading time.  The Gate program here in our school district is just one class per grade level so every subject is for advanced kids.  I'm not sure how it will work out because even if your kid is "advanced" they aren't necessarily advanced in each subject.  I was wrong about the number of kids in my daughters class.  The regular class they were going to put her in had 34, her GATE class has 32.  In Texas she had 21 kids in her class last year.   God I miss Texas  :(  Seriously, the weather is great here but I want to go back to Texas.

Lucky for me they still make my washer/dryer so mine will match.  I had gas hookup in my last house but I didn't even think to get a gas dryer.  We had a gas dryer when I lived with my parents and I never even considered it.  I don't know why.

My older daughter doesn't like her school.  She feels like a minority.  About 1/2 of the population of the school is Asian.  She said that the kids all group together and only speak Korean to each other so she can't make friends.  We live right on the dividing line where on the other side of the street the kids go to a different school.  There is a girl down the street that has introduced herself to my daughter and has had her over to her house several times.  She suggested my daughter go to the other school (this girl goes to the other school).  We are considering letting her switch schools.  The school she is currently at is rated a 9 (out of 10) and the other school is a little lower.  Both schools have an orchestra (my daughter plays the cello) so that is good.  A lot of schools in CA don't have any form of music at all because of budget cuts.

I can't believe the schools here Sparky.  Why aren't parents here screaming their heads off?  Are they just use to it or do they not know what they are missing because they don't know what it's like elsewhere?  Maybe we lived in an exceptional area in Texas for schools.  I can't imagine what it is like in the more crapy school districts here in Ca.

The house was originally built in 1949 but was remodeled and added onto in 2001.  I know he did it in increments and the kitchen was remodeled in 2003 or 2004.  It really has a lot of beautiful woodwork.  All the baseboards, crown molding and solid wood doors are natural black oak except for the study.  It has cherry.  The door to the study is half cherry and half natural black oak.  It is the coolest door, you can see where it is joined on the side.  Although I think it makes the house darker, I wanted white moulding, it truly is beautiful.  It was originally 1400 sq ft and they added on to the house to make it 2850 plus a 4 (two of the parking spots are tandem) car garage.  It seems that all the added on part of the house is that part that is not right.  The floor isn't level in several places.  We met the guy who did all of the woodwork.  He is from Poland and is quite the character.  I just can't believe with the amount of money he must of spent remodeling this house that he accepted some of the shoddy work.

..edit: the wood is natural black walnut not black oak.

She feels like a minority.

She IS a minority.  Welcome to California.  I knew maybe 4 of my Asian neighbors in OC.
