People who have agonized over their fat thighs might be able to relax a bit — Danish doctors said on Thursday they found patients with the thinnest thighs died sooner than the more endowed.

Obesity, age, smoking and other factors did not reduce the effect, the researchers reported in the British Medical Journal.

"Our results suggest that there might be an increased risk of premature death related to thigh size," Berit Heitmann of Copenhagen University Hospital and Peder Frederiksen of Glostrup University Hospital wrote.

The explanation may lie in many different studies that suggest where you gain your weight is a strong factor in how it affects health. People with lots of abdominal fat — wrapped in and around the internal organs — appear to be at higher risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other ills.

So-called pear-shaped people may have lower risks, even if they have more body fat overall.

Who was that guy who got on the fitness kick and running--Jim Fixx, was it?

Remember what happened to him?  Dead on the side of the road, aged 52.  His three main coronary arteries were blocked 95 percent, 85 percent, and 50 percent.

The really hilarious part about that statement is when I get home, the dog greets me by weaving back and forth between my thighs. Ya think she's tryin' to round me up?

I dont believe in most of these studies...while it's true apple shaped bodies will lead to greater risk of heart disease, they don't necessarily die sooner.  Also, eating right doesn't give you a pass either..I remember the strict vegan, Paul McCartney's first wife, died young from Breast Cancer.

I say, eat fried foods and dessert and when you're number is up...you will feel comfort knowing you didn't pass up dessert.   :-)

One of my uncles who is in his late 80's, drinks daily, smokes and eats raw red meat...he has never had surgery and is still going strong.
