Ohio school suspends boy over Mohawk

PARMA, Ohio - A kindergarten student with a freshly spiked Mohawk has been suspended from school.

Michelle Barile, the mother of 6-year-old Bryan Ruda, said nothing in the Parma Community School handbook prohibits the haircut, characterized by closely shaved sides with a strip of prominent hair on top. The school said the hair was a distraction for other students.

"I understand they have a dress code. I understand he has a uniform. But this is total discrimination," she said. "They can't tell me how I can cut his hair."

An administrator at the suburban Cleveland charter school first warned Barile last fall that the haircut wasn't acceptable. The school later sent another warning to her reiterating the ban.

Conform or else...

Bet they also have "diversity training" classes...   :whatever:

Conn. Girl Lights Teacher's Hair On Fire

Milford Student Arrested, Expelled
MILFORD, Conn. (AP) ― Milford officials have expelled a Jonathan Law High School student accused of lighting her science teacher's hair on fire during class.

Police say the girl was arrested after she ignited the ponytail of George Lardas with a lighter.

A police spokesman says Lardas did not require medical attention, but his hair was singed.

School officals say the incident occurred in late January, but became public on Tuesday.

School officials called police at the time and the girl has been charged with reckless endangerment, third-degree assault and breach of peace.

My son usually wears a mohawk, he has since he was 4.  He makes straight A's and has only been to the principles office once when another boy jumped him on the playground.  I fail to see how a hairdo can affect the education of other students.  The boy in question has a very wide mohawk too.  An inch or so shorter and it would be a crew cut.  How long does his hair have to be to be acceptable?  They should have designated hair cuts in the student guide.
All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.
