A 'systematic failure' in the treatment of a schizophrenic allowed him to murder a friend and eat parts of his brain before he went on to kill a fellow patient in Broadmoor,two separate reports have revealed.
Convicted killer Peter Bryan was given permission to live in a hostel in north London where he could come and go as he pleased.
He had been admitted to a secure hospital after beating shop assistant Nisha Sheth to death with a hammer in 1993.
But eight years later, mental health experts decided he could live in the community under supervision.
In 2002 he moved to the hostel and at the beginning of 2004 social workers applied for his transfer to 'low support accommodation' but four weeks later Bryan murdered his friend Brian Cherry, 43, and cooked and ate his flesh.

To be fair this isn't the kind of thing that privatized healthcare would be a remedy for as this does fall within the proper purview of government.

Government health experts gave the okay for this.  True that the same could have happened here, but I haven't heard of any such severe case.

And they're obviously incompetent but only government employed shrinks would/could diagnose any prisoner--even in RonPaul Land--because the state and only the state can wield such power*.



* Even when contracting prisons the state merely delegates some of that power but the incarceration is still ultimately controlled by the state as the private owner has no power absent state charter.

Seeing as how there could be a massive influx of patients to be covered under 0BamaCare, it seems likely that many doctors/shrinks could be overworked, and make more mistakes in judgment.

Which is why this sort of thing can/sort of be blamed on Nationalized Health Care, like England has.  So far, I haven't seen anything about free psychiatric help, but it's coming, I'm sure.  (That is what the DUmmies need free, not the medical care. They just want that as an avenue to free drugs.)

Please understand I'm no fan of ComradeCare but I don't think general incompetence is exclusively the result of socialism. That's all I'm saying.

Anecdotally: While I was away at MOS school in July there was a story of an air force surgeon attempting laproscopic excision of an aiman's gall bladder.

Dumbass ended up clipping the poor bastard's aortic valve and in the intervening 6 hours required to repair the mistake the severity of blood loss cost the aiman both legs at the hip. Not to mention there are plenty of genuine malpractice cases in market based healthcare systems regardless of the profession.

I'd rather chalk this up to general malpractice rather than find commies behind every rock. Just because we toss a 2-pound rock out of the pile doesn't mean we can't bury ComradeCare under the other 84 tons of evidence against it. An even temper carries much further in the eyes of the undecided than aires of unmoderated hysteria.

That's all I'm sayin'.

I still believe that the conditions fostered under socialized medicine can lead to more mistakes.  I think that to meet the needs of an expanding patient base, that standards may be lowered.  Not in the education and training, per se, but in the experience required to do certain things.

The report found 'there was, however, a systemic failure to ensure that the key professionals allocated to care for Peter Bryan in the community had the necessary experience to deal with someone with his forensic history and complex presentation.

I see this as a failure of their criminal justice system, more so than their national health system.

FWIW IMHO, our criminal justice system isn't any better.
