Considering we make it too easy and give too much discretion, who would want to work if Unca Shuga was giving you MONEY to do what you wanted instead of just the bare necessities?  I mean, if the state/feds give you $400/month (I'm just using a number) for groceries instead of giving you the basics to get you and your progeny by on a healthy diet (meaning no filet, no crab legs, no smokes), a roof over your head, and NOTHING else except job assistance/courses, you'd see welfare rolls drop dramatically.

Someone actually suggested to me once the notion of running the projects like military dormitories.  If someone accepted welfare they had to live in these, single women and their children would be strictly seperated from any men in a no sexual contact allowed type of environement, and if they became pregnant anyway they would immediately and permanantly be dropped from the welfare roles.

I thought it draconian at the time.  Now, I'm not so sure.

The scenario Shadeaux describes is in my view preferable to what I see on the streets in the smallish city next over.  At least they're showing some initiative, even if they're stealing the raw materials.  They actually are working.
On welfare day over here, you see everybody in the shitty part of town out drinking lots and lots of beer on their picnic tables all day long.  Then they bring out the bottles of hooch when dusk hits.  Pure trash.

55. We got Starbucks coffee for christmas - It sucks. These people
need information to make better coffee choices.

Besides, they were probably all Republicans.

Right.

Stupidest post of the day alert:

Right.

I don't know Karin.  This one is comparing the troops and other gov't workers to those on welfare and wants to know why we don't 'investigate' them.

88. What a stupid "Investigation"

Where are the investigations into what troops, post office workers, or emergency responders are spending taxpayer money on? I guarantee at least on the troop side from personal experience there is a lot of waste especially on alcohol products. Not to mention how much taxpayer money is wasted funding pointless wars that will hurt us in the long run.

You see DUmbasses it's money they've honestly earned as opposed to sponged up. It's why they can spend it any damn way they please with no objections. They have what are commonly referred to as jobs. That's where you exchange your time for money by doing what's called work.

Sitting on your ass at home, smoking crack and breeding bastard chillins is NOT work and it's damn sure not a job. There is no reason to be paid for it. That's why people who have jobs object to those who don't getting money.

Hmmmm...I sure don't remember spending my entire paycheck on booze and smokes.  I know I spent a decent percentage on it sometimes, but such is life when you earn a whopping $267.83 twice a month as an E-3.  Even in 1984, that wasn't shit.  Take away uniform items, haircuts, CFC and Navy Relief "donations", car payment, insurance, gas, the once-a-month movie, and it dwindles real fast.  And even when I got out as an E-6, $1500 twice a month wasn't much better, considering rent alone was over $1100 a month, not including utilities, transportation, food, etc.

Hm, I've seen several studies that point to welfare as the beginning of the end for the black family.
Not just the black family...it just seems to have done them more damage than the other races, but I think we're catching up. In this part of the country the welfare/drug dealer families come in every color.

Guess this is really telling my age, but back in '71 we had food stamps for about 3 months.  At that time you could buy only food staples on them such as flour, beans, bread, milk, etc.  You could not buy cola and things of that nature.

We had to attend nutrition and cooking class to learn how to get the most out of our food purchases.  I don't know when those requirements changed, but I do know I get mighty tired of seeing recipients these days buying frozen peanut butter sandwiches with the crusts cut off in addition to their crab legs and lobster.  They're the same ones seen on TV around the 15th of the month crying that they babies is hungry.

The problem with welfare and food stamps is they have become a lifestyle choice. Not a hand up like they were intended. In GA and FL they get free cell phones and so many minutes a month. What's next free laptops and wireless?
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.
