Is homelessness OK with you?

I just read a post that said that 40% of people in Detroit are living BELOW the poverty line. Today, in LBN, I saw where foreclosures have gone up 90%. People are loosing their homes, going to bed hungry and suffering.

If you think this is a choice they are making then stop that line of thinking NOW. Your brain is persuading you to think this way so you can sleep at night but if you do not face it it is still going on and there is still a great deal of suffering in this country.

By the time this roller coaster ride is over we will all know at least one person who has lost their home or it will be us who have lost their home. Like it or not, we are in this together. We are the Democratic party and this means we have empathy for our fellow man. This means we have an obligation.

The question is quite simple really and only requires a yes or no answer. Are you OK with the existence of homelessness? Either you are OK with it or you want to solve it. If the answer is the latter, what are you going to do about it?

Yes, I am okay with the existence of homelessness.

Yes, I am okay with the existence of homelessness.

Is it just me or does the homeless only appear when a Republican is in office?

93% of all mortgages are paid on time.

Life isn't kind to people with bad math skills. Like "I make $1500 a month, so I should take a mortgage of $520,000."

Liberals live idiots, since they are easily led.

I don't like homelessness at all.  That would be why I purchased a house for less than I could afford on a 15 year fixed-rate mortgage.  I didn't borrow 110% of the value of my home, I didn't take an interest-only loan, and I didn't lie about my income.  These were choices I made.   Obviously, some people chose poorly.

Hey, let me give you a sad, sad tale.

Someone buys a $100,000 home with a 6.5% fixed interest rate.  He/she stays in this home for 5 years and pays it off.  Then, he/she sees that the house is now worth $350,000.

"Hot damn!" says him/her.  And he/she calls the local broker and refinances and pulls $250,000 out for a trip around the world and a Mercedes M  class.

Ah, but He/she sees that rates are going up.  "Cool" says He/she, "I can get an interest only loan to cover the 150 grand and only pay $450 a month and then just do it again later."

Now, He/she has a Mercedes M Class and a round the world trip under his/her belt.

Now, He/she attempts to re-fi his/her $100K home and *gasp* it is worth $250,000!  OMG!!

Now we need the gummit to keep us from making the new actual payments of around $2,600.  Oh no! Oh no!"

Thank GOD we have the Legislature to make sure they take back the trip and the car.

Huh?  They can't take back the vacation?  And they can't take back the car?

OK, well I guess it worked.  As far as the loss for the stupid bank goes, send it to "the next person who wants to buy a house"

The "homeless" magically disappear off the liberal radar when a democrat is in the White House.  It's that amazing?

I want to interview these people living below the poverty line who go to bed hungry.  Just one will do.  I want to know why in the hell they refuse food stamps.  I want to know why they don't turn to charities who feed hundreds every month.  I want to know why they like to go to bed hungry.  It is a choice they make.  Maybe they are on a diet.

All the centers of homelessness are under liberal control and have been for decades.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

So is Detroit, the genesis of the OP.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Yes, I am okay with the existence of homelessness.

Ditto.  See, I realize that people cannot be forced to be homed (if that's what you call the opposite of homelessness).  There will always be a certain percentage of people who simply choose to be homeless.

Of course, it should be noted that this article is about the shithole known as Detroit.  I would LOVE to see people helping the impoverished in Detroit.  Unfortunately, Detroit is, as I said, a shithole and you can get shot to death simply walking down the street.

I know a couple who lost their home.

He was an engineer, and she worked full-time as an accounting clerk. Their payment skyrocketed when their ARM increased substantially.

Of course, since that was in the early '80's and it was all a result of the Carter debacle, I'm sure it doesn't count as far as the DUmp is concerned.

Reading through that thread what stands out is how many declare that a roof (along with every other thing in life) is a right in that it should be provided to everyone without question free of charge. :o

In the late 80's my wife and I were living in a travel trailer.  We traveled all over the country building water towers and used the wifes mom and dad's address for a 'permanent' mailing address.  When the census takers came through the RV park we were in they asked us a lot of questions.  When they were done the lady told me we were considered 'homeless' per the census!

I really question the homeless stats that are out there.  Do you know how many workers are out there making $50k - 100k per year that are considered homeless because they work construction and travel with the job?!

Hey, let me give you a sad, sad tale.

Someone buys a $100,000 home with a 6.5% fixed interest rate.  He/she stays in this home for 5 years and pays it off.  Then, he/she sees that the house is now worth $350,000.
..snip..

A wise person once told me that a thing is only worth what someone pays for it!

When I was a kid, I collected football cards. I have a 1979 Topps Earl Campbell rookie card. It's the only card ever produced for him. Magazines say it's worth 80 bucks. lol. I probably could get five bucks for it somewhere if I found an old-time Oiler's fan.

But 80 bucks for a little hunk of cardboard looks pretty good on paper, doesn't it?

God alone suffices.
