I wonder if there is something wrong with me?

Sometimes I wonder if there is something wrong with me. Sometimes I get extremely weird reactions from people that make me feel that there is.

For example, earlier this year when I was still a manager at Target. My next level manager (who was in charge of human resources) called me in to her office. She asked me why I did not write up a team member who told us she needed to leave work early and did so.

I told her that since she was in the late stages of pregnancy, and was having an unexpected pregnancy complication at work, I felt that it would not be the right thing to do. I just remember her looking at me like there was something wrong with me before she proceeded to tell me that "it doesn't matter if you think it's right this is a business and she disrupted the business by leaving early". I ended up not doing it and getting written up by our store manage for insubordination. I was told by all my peers that it seemed kind of questionable to them, but I "should have just done it because upper management said so" pretty much.

What made me feel I was weird though is that I thought my point would be understood. But it is like my way of thinking and coming up with a course of action is substantially different than everyone else.

Things like that happen all the time with people I interact with. It is like I say something and I am on the completely different page as everyone else.

I am wondering does this happen to anyone else here in daily life? Could it be maybe because I am in Texas and the people just think differently? Or is it I am just weird compared to most people?

Somehow I don't think the candy bar primitive is disclosing all the information in this bouncy.

Yes.  You're a DUmmy.  What's more, you prefer the society of fellow lunatics, each telling everyone else that they're all the sane ones, which merely reinforces the grip your mental illness has upon you.  Of course there is something wrong with you.

Next question.

What the bajaysus does being in Texas have to do with a dang thing?

Here is the deal.  In order to run efficiently, companies have standards and rules as it relates to attendance practices.  And due to a litigious-rich environment, they must adhere to the standards and rules at all costs, or run the risk of showing favoritism, ending up in high dollar lawsuits, meaning I don't get a raise.

So, essentially, if you are so dimwitted, that you cannot understand, acknowledge and accept basic management procedure, well, then OF COURSE you will be written up, and more than likely FIRED. Straighten up and fly right, or go get a job somewhere else.  Somewhere that you don't have to be a decision maker, if it freaks you out that bad.

Of course due to the lovely ARRA, you could just muck it up on your own, get fired, and I will slave away, paying your unemployment, and your subsidy for COBRA.  Shmuck.   :banghead:

What complete and utter bullshit! No manager in their right mind would write up a pregnant woman for having to leave.  :whatever:

Methinks the real reason is that YES she should have done the write-up not as a disciplinary action but because it placed the store in a position of civil liability. If there were a complication and some lawyer of the John Edwardian sort caught wind of it the case would be made that target had placed undo stress on the mother and the failure to document was proof of a consciousness of guilt and sunsequent cover-up.

Of course DUmmies lie and since HR had to explain to this idiot what an idiot she is she decided to re-cast the dialogue to make herself to be the champion of workers' rights and mothers' health even though Target would never jeopardize its profits, public image or legal standing with a violation of the FMLA and basic decency.

What she's probably leaving out is this is just part of procedure. Once the employee brought back a note from the doctor(who we all know she was going right off to see since she was having an 'unexpected pregnancy complication'), the write up is disregarded. Managers may be, however, required to write the incident up initially until the circumstances play themselves out. No doubt they were probably very picky about the policy at this point because of past abuses by employees. And since pregnant employee would have brought back a medical excuse, her write up would not have stood. But I'm sure the DUmmies friend was indeed having a complication and not just taking advantage of the fact her buddy was a manager and heading out early to get some errands done or hang out with her friends or whatever. Couldn't even be that the DUmmie manager is known for being a sucker and the employees under her always go to her when they want to leave early knowing she won't follow store policy and will just let them go. hmmm

Should have read this first, Bunny. Precisely what I meant. Was a matter of procedure due to the things mentioned. Upon subsequent documentation, it would not have been disciplanary and may have not been in the first place, but more procedural. Incidentally, FMLA kinda requires all this documentation anyway. The manager was wrong in this situation and actually putting Target at risk with federal laws regarding FMLA I bet. And to think, I have more knowledge then she does regarding HR procedures regarding federal law yet I'm still looking for work. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

It could also be that that pregnant person may not have been employed for enough time to be eligible for FMLA, or may have already used up that FMLA bank.  I would imagine a company as large as Target has a pretty strict, straightforward policy regarding unexcused absences.  Even with FMLA, there are guidelines a person must follow, the first of which being that they must register with HR, which obviously wasn't the case, if HR was in a snit about not getting a write up on this person to begin with.

Never did like Twix.

Managers have to document any "variance in the time tables. Home Depot does the same thing. Chances are if Miss pregnant woulf merely gone to the proper super, it would have been no big deal. Sounds like she just told the department head instead of the manager on duty. That will get you wrote up every time.

I have a ranch to run along with working at the depot. I have to leave and take care of business for the ranch all the time. They merely ask me to try and schedule it so the department I am in has coverage from another associate. I also have to have the proper manager's okay.

Bouncy, zero bongs. She didn't even convert the gal from HR!

On a different page?...shoot, most of the DUmmies aren't even in the same book.

DUmmy TwixVoy, being a DUmmy, lies, all the time. If any aspect of this bouncy story actually happened, it is much more likely this:

A female employee sneaked out of the store, while on the clock, in order to GET pregnant, and DUmmy TwixVoy tried to cover for her, was caught, and got fired. None of the other employees gave a damn. Another good possiblity is the employee sneaking out WAS TwixVoy. Another possibility is that the employee and TwixVoy BOTH sneaked out, in order to have sex behind a pallet of George Foreman grills out back, got caught, and both were fired.

The only thing that most certainly didn't happen was DUmmy TwixVoy's original story of quitting Target because of ethical concern.

DUmmy TwixVoy was fired by Target, but it's highly unlikely DUmmy TwixVoy was ever in a position of more authority than to make change
for customers.

That reminds me of an incident I have personal knowledge of, from about twenty years ago. We had a male supervisor in a manufacturing plant caught having sex with a female fork truck driver, whom he supervised, inside a boxcar on the plant siding. He was fired. She was not, because she was on her own time, having come in to pick up a paycheck. Sounds kind of TwixVoyish now that I think of it.

Oh the Twixter could have been a department head. Some of the most arrogant, unqualified, ignorant people that I have ever met, kiss enough ass to get the job. Me, even being a 1000 times more experienced and knowledgeable than these people, decline the job every time it is offered. My days of filling out all the frikkin paperwork and red tape are long over.

Besides, with my knowledge of the construction industry, I pretty much write my own ticket and make more money than they do anyway. Even the DH's will do what I tell them is best for their departments.
