Boo-ray For Hollywood

So much for the Oscar ceremony nobody watched.  Let’s be honest, Hollywood could care less.  The sponsors lost money, but the network got paid, the production crew got paid, and the celebrities got more of the attention they crave.

It’s redundant to say, “Hollywood doesn’t get it”.  They continue to create message movies that talk down to their audiences.  They continue to assume that because they play military personnel and spouses in movies, they’re qualified to lecture the rest of us lowly patrons about how wrong all war is.  They continue to believe once we know whom they support for president; we’ll admire their wisdom and vote in a similar fashion.

Here’s the problem with The Oscars, The Golden Globe Awards, The Spirit Awards, et al.  People are tired of spoiled, stoned, a-couple-of-days-off-rehab millionaire actors and actresses (they hate that word) appearing at another ceremony where they get to tell the world just how wonderful and talented they are.  Aren’t the lofty paychecks enough to keep them happy?

Outside of the Espy’s, how many ceremonies do we see where multi-millionaire athletes repeatedly pat themselves on their own backs?  Hollywood stars are so wrapped up in their self-importance that they feel this continued need to be seen as adored and relevant.

And enough of the Hollywood “dishonesty” about their supporting the soldiers.  If this weren’t a Daily Dose mass mailer, I’d use another word.

During the broadcast, a small group of soldiers via satellite from Iraq introduced the Best Documentary category.  The polite soldiers thanked the Academy for allowing them to announce the winner.  But not only was Sunday night’s broadcast the least-watched of all time, maybe so were some of the films, thus the Army personnel probably knew not what they were celebrating.

The documentary, Taxi To The Dark Side, according to imdb.com is “An in-depth look at the torture practices of the United States in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, focusing on an innocent taxi driver in Afghanistan who was tortured and killed in 2002.”

The fact that the Academy had our soldiers announce this film as the winner for Best Documentary again shows Hollywood’s attempt to publicly humiliate the very people they insist they support.

While our soldiers thanked the Academy, NOT ONE Hollywood celebrity who took the stage that night thanked them for risking their lives so the limos could arrive without fear of suicide bombing.  NOT ONE of those Hollywood celebrities could be bothered with acknowledging the sacrifices our young men and women make daily, so those they didn’t have to wear flak jackets over their gowns and jewels and custom made suits worth more than my house.

NOT ONE Hollywood celebrity could be bothered to thank those “troops”.  It was all about them. It was all about the “craft”.  It was all about being their being adored.  It was all about who had the privilege of making the clothes and jewelry and shoes they wore.

The majority of the American people can’t tell you the names of more than one of the films up for Best Picture.  I admit to not going to see too many pictures anymore.  I’m tired of lame remakes, or being issued a dose of Hollywood intellect that I had the privilege of paying for.

More of us seem interested in witnessing Hollywood stars endure the self-imposed train wrecks.  They’re spoiled, rudderless, amoral, narcissistic, thus we look forward to their temporary, numerous comeuppances.  Their publicists apologize to their fans, and we look forward for the inevitable relapses.  Those in “the industry” consider those stars tragic figures in need to help and sympathy.  Because of their disdain for us, we in turn consider those tragic figures entertainment.

Hollywood will never get it because they don’t have to.  They get paid regardless of how a film sells.  Most of them could live great lives should they never work again.

So the films they make illustrate just how little they think of us.  They believe their jobs are not to entertain us, but to get our little minds right.  If celebrities insult our soldiers (protecting their ability to be adults brats), and the American people, so be it.  We had it coming.

They probably assumed we were too dumb to see the “humor” and irony of the Best Documentary-soldier slam.  At the same time, I guess we were too dumb to watch their all-important, self-glorifying ritual.

Maybe the American people aren’t so dumb after all.

That is good to hear.  People are starting to realize how pointless these award shows truly are.

All awards shows need to be done away with.  They are nothing more than Hollywood/music industry  just patting themselves on the back.    :whatever:
