Attorney General Eric Holder plans to appoint a special prosecutor to look into a number of alleged CIA prisoner-abuse cases.

ORIGINAL STORY ...

The Justice Department's ethics office has recommended to Attorney General Eric Holder that a number of alleged CIA prisoner-abuse cases that were closed under the Bush administration be reopened, FOX News confirms.

Holder is considering the guidance as his department is set to make public a 2004 report by the CIA's inspector general detailing allegations of prisoner abuse.

Several details in the review have already been reported. FOX News confirmed over the weekend that the report includes claims that interrogators threatened at least one prisoner with a power drill and also conducted mock executions to scare detainees.

In a memo to the agency Monday morning, CIA Director Leon Panetta urged his staff to stay focused in the face of the "politicized" debate the report is expected to stir up, and defended the way the agency has handled allegations of abuse over the past several years.

"This is in many ways an old story," Panetta wrote, saying many of the techniques have already been made public. He wrote that the CIA obtained intelligence from high-value detainees "when inside information on Al Qaeda was in short supply," and that his role now is to "stand up" for officers who followed the legal guidance given to them.

But a source with knowledge of the Office of Professional Responsibility's recommendations suggested that as many as 10 cases could be reopened.

That was done years ago by Ted Kennedy and Frank Church after Vietnam. This just finnishes the job so that later on when another 9/11 hits they can blame all the intel guys for "screwing it up once again".

I thought Jamie Gorelick had a little hand in damaging intelligence operations, at least as far as inter agency cooperation, anyway.

Actually they just screwed it up, they didn't manage to wreck it.  Stansfield Turner and Jimmuh in their turn DID totally destroy it, and we have been trying to recapture some capability in it for 20 years, despite swimming with several Congressionally-imposed anchors (Thanx to Kerry and company).  Kiss whatever crippled capability we have good-bye now, though.

With this administration, anything is possible.

Could it be the CIA has incriminating evidence against BO?  Maybe they know he was born in Kenya :-)

Or could this be diversion from the debacle that is socialized medicine or the fact that the deficit is soaring (which they announced over the weekend while no one was looking)?

Awwwwwww, Barack Hussein Obama is trying to change the subject off of socialized medicine and sucking up to his far-left cronies here at the same time. Those CIA documents "exonerating" Cheney were also released, hmmmmm , , , ,

And now I see the WH is spatting with Lou Panetta, who as April here says, should have access to all the documents *missing* concerning O's past. Dangerous game indeed.

Holder & Company are likely to stupid to realize it, but appointing a "Special Prosecutor"  is akin to releasing a two-headed snake.......you can never be certain that it is not going to bite you in the ass......and it has happened several times......as Clinton can attest.......
