MARIANNA, Fla. — Rep Allen Boyd (D-Fla.) is a skilled politician who has pretty much seen it all — a Deep South Democrat who’s managed to dispatch all opponents in his conservative-leaning Panhandle district since winning election in 1996.

But as he fended off gnats buzzing through the August humidity after a morning fending off angry constituents at a town hall meeting here, Boyd confided that the depth of the unease spurred by the health care debate had caught him by surprise.

“They may be in a minority, but they are a larger minority than we’ve seen in the 20-plus years that I’ve been doing this,” said Boyd of the standing-room-only crowds who have been showing up to shout, boo, mutter and, in one case, hand him an actual stack of pink slips since he returned home for recess.  â€œI’ve never seen anything like this.”

The overhyped and in many cases fraudulent sense of grass-roots fervor during an August Democrats would like to forget is easy to minimize. But for all the cries of Astroturf fakery and ginned-up crowds, a ground zero view in a district like Boyd’s underlines that a very real sense of anger and frustration is bubbling over as summer wanes.

A visit to Florida’s 2nd District also is a bracing case study in the mounting political peril some Blue Dogs like Boyd may be facing. Boyd acknowledged that after coasting to victory in a string of elections, including when a popular President George W. Bush was on top of the ticket in 2004 and national Republicans actively plotted his ouster, he may face a real threat next year at the polls.

"In many cases fraudulent?"  The statement clearly shows the bias of the Politico.  And, we'll see come this November, when voters in New Jersey and Virginia get to voice frustration with Obama.  It will continue next year.

Hi,

My wife and I lived in Escambia county for a few years in the mid 1990's, less than two miles from the Alabama border on the beach....till we evacuated three times for hurricanes...  It is very republican as there are several military stations there and a lot of retired military, and, as you move east toward Tallahassee, the state capital you start to see more democrats.  Much of the panhandle of Florida is in the central time zone.  In the 2000 election, the Florida Secretary of State (Kathryn Harris) wrote all the networks prior to the election reminding them a good number of voters are in the central time zone and NOT TO CALL THE STATE OF FLORIDA UNTIL THE POLLS CLOSED IN THE CENTRAL TIME ZONE.  Well the mainstream press, all to giddy to help Kerry, called Florida shortly after the polls closed in the east and the reports were literally hundreds of folks in line to vote in the panhandle just went home without voting.  This of course was the goal.  Had that event not occured there would have been no hanging chad crap that the nation had to endure.

If anyone wants to know what really happened in the 2000 election, I suggest you read the book, "At any cost".  It will show you just how far the democrats, led by Mayor Dailey's brother Bill, will go to steal an election.  Forget the fairness, or will of the people, they could care less, when all else fails screw the voters and steal the election.  It is a very disturbing book.  I was in Tampa at the time and there was a new radio personality on WFLA named Glenn Beck who was right on top of things.  Just like today, he was more worried about what was happening to America.  In those days he had time to answer his emails because he was just on a local station.

For what it is worth, I spent a few minutes with Kathryn Harris a few years ago when she showed up at our gun show in Lakeland.  She is one very bright, petite, good looking lady who truly was a public servant just doing her job.  Her family is from Lakeland, she has plenty of money and really was a public servant.  The press did to her what they did to Palin and it is a terrible shame.  She showed great courage standing up to all the garbage they threw at her because she was just doing her job as outlined in the state Constitution.

The blue dog better damn sure speak out and vote against the health care bill or this term will indeed be his last.  I have many friends up there and get emails regularly and they have about had it.  Retired military know full well wha communism and freedom is all about and they do not like what they see one bit.

regards,
