It doesn't rain much in LA.

Get DirecTV.  I've had it for 9 years, no problems.

Also a good choice, but if the kidlets need Interwebz for school, then what?

BTW--my dad has Direct TV and swears by it, but I don't think he even knows what a computer is.

Many phone companies offer DSL, in LA, she can get interweb service with her phone line.

If you live out in the sticks, maybe not.

I have Comcast, and my service has been going up and down all week.  I've had a few service interruptions in the last year, nothing major, but this shit is starting to get on my nerves.

While not advertised, most Cable companies have a limited-basic plan intended for senior citizens and such.  For around $10 a month, you'll receive your local channels in clarity and around a dozen or so basic cable channels.

More importantly, that mere $10 subscription, allows you to have a cable modem connection without the typical upwards of 50% surcharge for not being a cable subscriber  :cheersmate:

I have the $10 cable package.  You sayin' I'm old? :p

I don't watch enough TV to justify anything more expensive.  More TV just pisses me off when I see there's nothing on and I think about the money I'm wasting.  Our local PBS is pretty decent and has a lot of stuff from the Discovery and Military channel when they're not propping up Bill Moyer's old corpse, and I have to get my 'This Old House' fix on the weekend.

I've had them all except for the Fibre Optic stuff. Out of them all I preferred Direc-TV. BUT after the "incident" I can't/won't really use them anymore.  :innocent:

Dad switched to Dish afterwards then too and he's very happy with it. Yep there are some problems with the rain fade but if it's all installed right then it's only an issue while the storms are close on their approach. Once you get into the storm then it pops back on.

I've had DSL and cable both too. I'm on cable right now and it's OK but pricey. It's still better than the sheer raping I was getting with a home phone and DSL though.

We need something at the new house. There's never been cable and the cable company has to come see for themselves that theres a house there before they'll set up an appointment to install. IF they piss e off any more then most likely We'll be Dishing it.

I was told that to use the wireless cards, we had to have "line of sight" to a tower....and we don't.

Is that true?
Check their coverage map online.  Most likely if you have a good cell phone signal, you will be okay with broadband.  I think they also let you return it if you have no signal where you live.

All we can get is Satellite, You've got to drive 12 miles to get a cell signal.

I have the same package  :cheersmate: if it wasn't actually paid for, by the discount on my cable internet connection I wouldn't even have cable or satelite tv.  I just don't watch tv enough to even justify it, and the shows I do like I just buy or rent at my convenience when they come out on dvd.

I have had cable, Dish and Direct TV. Out of the 3, I prefer Direct TV. Moderate to heavy rains knocks it off for a short period of time.

One of the Superman movies is on WGN.  I'm not sure which one it is... I don't see Terrence Stamp, Richard Pryor, or Ned Beatty.
