Debate Heats Up Over Renaming Of Dallas Schools

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21)  The debate to rename two Dallas schools after President Barack Obama and newly sworn-in Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor is heating up.

*snip*

"Overwhelmingly, the parents and the kids said we want Barack Obama and when you see those kids eyes, their eyes just started glowing, and even the parent's eyes were glowing just for the fact that their kid would one day go to the Barack Obama school," Price said.

So far, there hasn't been much debate over the selected Sotomayor school.

My eyes would be glowing too, but not in a good way.

Tell ya what kids, wait 4 years and see how you feel about it after grandma and grandpa have been refused care and sent home to die.  If you still want it then, fine.  I have the feeling you're asking for the Edsel.

This would be like going back to 1968 and naming a wing of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after Charles Manson because he auditioned for Terry Melcher and The Beach Boys.

Oh FFS! Isn't there already a system in place for naming schools in Texas? I did find this little tidbit -

Additionally, the board will have to waive its policy for the proposed naming for the schools and library because the recipients have not attained the age of 70, as required.

I can see November 2 from my house!!!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

It use to be they couldn't name any school/institution after a living person.  I still think that is good policy.

I agree, the person should A. Be dead B. Have done something worthy of the naming C. Be of incredibly high morals and reputation.
Barry 0 has none of the above.
All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.

Awh hell, just name it Hype High, "Home of Suckers" and be done with it.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin
