How much do you tip...
« on: August 13, 2009, 04:12:31 PM »
The maid who comes in about every two or three days to change your sheets, clean the bathroom and give you new towels?  She would come in everyday if I wanted but I can make my own bed and load the dishwasher and turn the knob to turn it on (their maids are suppose to put your dishes in the dishwasher and turn it on...and empty it when it's finished.  I kid you not.).  Oh she also vacuums.

Do you tip everytime they come in, every week or at the end of your stay?  I haven't tipped her yet but I'm starting to feel guilty for not tipping her yet.

So how much would you tip her and when?

At my in-laws Bed-n-Breakfast, the guests typically leave a flat $10 - $20 bucks for your average weekend stay.  The rooms are in the range of $120 - $150 a night, so it's not too big a percentage, looking at it from that angle.

If this stay is part of your relocation package, *you* should not have to tip at all.  This isn't a volunteer vacation.

Find out how the employer wants you to handle the situation.  (no, I'm not being too petty - right is right is right)

I would say pay at the end of your stay, anything between $5-$10 per three nights spent would be fair. Maybe a bit more based on the services provided.

By the end of our stay we will have been here a little over a month. I have no idea what is proper for that long of a stay.

Back in the day, I was a maid at a dive motel. Now this was when I was 14-16 years old. I started at $1.85/hour, I kid you not.

Getting a cash tip happened once in a blue moon and it was always appreciated. But, what really made my day was when smokes or alcohol was left behind.... good times! I'll never forget the time we were drinking Schlitz and smoking Swisher Sweets down by the creek....  :evillaugh: Memories!

I usually tip at the end of the stay, unless the service was nonexistent.

In your case, whatever you tip should be expensed, so tipping every week might be appropriate.

Those situations like you're in, BEG, they're pretty conscientious because they make decent $$ due to the expense reports that are being filled out.

Swisher Sweets, now those were fine nickel cigars. Now do you believe I'm old?

BEG, I miss you first of all and secondly, I don't know. We tipped the lady at the Holiday Inn when we stayed 3 nights during my grandmother's funeral 5 bucks. She came in once to do all that.

Eupher beat me to it... if your husband's company is managing the hotel expenses, charge them for it.

How much do you tip a mover?

I gave each guy a $100 and from the look they gave me I could tell it was way too much. I gave the foreman the money to hand out and the other guys got out of the truck, came into the house, shook my hand and thanked me.

We usually tipped something like 50 bucks per guy for the movers...the ones we had on our last move were awesome, and there were only 2 of them.

As for the hotel, I'd do one big tip at the end...maybe 30 bucks for the month?
