I've been a loner for 35 years now? Well, it has a few ups and downs, right now I'm way in the down area, as I just turned 60 and have been out of work more or less for 4 years. A few jobs here and there.

But, it's not always easy. I can see why married/partner couples live longer. Mostly, I think they want to, for each other? I guess, but it worked for me up til this year, more or less. It's the difficulties of old age that are getting to me.

I don't know where to start.

It's a lonely group, there in the uncool loners's forum.

1. I hear you.

Being out of work is probably a greater contributor to your depressive feelings than age, as long as your health is reasonably good.

And Happy Birthday! I'm also 60 (61 shortly) and have found that some of my life preferences have definitely shifted. I've become more of a loner and love it. Family and job never gave me much option before, but now I do have the choice and am indulging it fully.

Maybe in your case, it's time to become somewhat less of a loner, and start seeking out activities where you'll meet more people?

No way.

Unlike the primitives, we all have our futures to look forward to.

None of us know our futures, but it's reasonable to expect our own destinies to be better, more fulfilling, more enriching, than what lies ahead for the primitives.

Well, yeah, that could be a fallback future for you, sir.

You have greater talents.

There's a story, for example, behind the relationship of your older brother and yourself, and some of us would like to enjoy it.  You've given a few really tiny, partial-sentence, clues, and it's got to be a good story.

Oh, I dunno, FGL, sir.

I detect something really good there, the way things should be but rarely are.

 :thatsright:

I too am the oldest. Don't have much to do with my siblings, one's a crook/conman, the other's a dope smoking hippie. For the life of me I can't figure out how they took the paths they did, as we all were brought up in an extremely conservative household!

I'm the oldest, but my brother and two sisters all turned out to be fairly conservative.  One of my sisters even married a Seabee (though he was going through nuc school when they met), so she's about as conservative as I am.
