Looks like the entire car is a "crumple zone".
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

I can only guess that the ambulance is there because one of the truck-drivers twisted his ankle jumping from the cab.  It's certainly not hauling away any "smart car" drivers today.
Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.   ~Robert A. Heinlein

The driver lived. Was thrown out as the car collapsed on the rt. side, he was popped out the left side, the story goes. I will note that I've seen far less a damaging loss where the drived died...

I saw an accident like this once before in person. A log truck and a semi. It was a little Nissan in between. The front wheel of the log truck was parked in the driver's seat of the Nissan. Not pretty! It was a middle aged lady who had the unfortunate experience of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. They didn't even bother calling an ambulance and elected to just call the coroner.
