Police quizzed Sodini before shooting
Witness reported seeing him days before with 'hand grenade' on bus

Less than a week before he killed three women and then himself inside the LA Fitness center in Collier, George Sodini was investigated by Port Authority police for possibly taking a hand grenade on a bus.

Although police at the time were unable to confirm that Mr. Sodini was the man with the grenade, after the shootings Tuesday county investigators found writings at his Scott home in which he referred to the bus incident.

Police were unable to say whether the Port Authority investigation led Mr. Sodini to hasten his plans to carry out the mass shootings at the gym.

IF ONLY the person who thought they saw the hand grenade had called authorities soon enough for the bus to be searched.
