Let me see if this is correct, Dan Rather supposed forged documents...
Probably real, press and Bush team eats Dan Rather alive, Rather forced to resign. Obama fake birth certificate, obviously forged, press can't get enough and gives the microphone to anybody who can make a claim to seeing an infant Obama in East Africa 50 some odd years ago. False allegations fly and they are taken to be gospel. Is that right? Where is that liberal press again?

3. As I recall, that document was not forged
but re-created from the memory of the Lady who originally typed it. It was never represented to be real. The real document had been removed to hide
Bush's service record.
DUmmy Turbineguy has a very creative take on forgery.

I don't think Dan was even accused of the forgery, but just presenting them as credible without supposedly doing enough homework and investigation.
The funny part is, even if the documents were fake, they substantiated what's common knowledge... Bush's military "career" was highly suspect.
The "birthers" are producing shit to support something nobody seriously believes.
Dan Rather is way too dumb to have created a forgery. It came from Mary Mapes, who has always been on the secret payroll of Lord Rove.
